Uncover Kernersville's Mexican dining scene with Restaurantji's insights.
“My wife and I moved to Kernersville a year and a half ago and have eaten here probably 10x since and gotten food to go multiple times as well. We have never had bad service or any difference in the quality of the food and we love it. I can't say enough good things about this place and the owner and how it's run. We have our favorite Mexican restaurant once more.“
“I made it a point today to seek out this small, hole-in-the-wall taqueria. It's located in a small, very worn strip center, fronted by an Exxon convenience store. The interior is a narrow, rectangular shape with 6 or so booths available for dining in, and though worn and dated, the area is bright and clean. You order at the register, which I did, and my order was quickly taken, efficiently & with a smile. My order consistently of Chorizo Tacos (4) , a single Sope with carnitas as the meat of choice, and an order of Cheese and Pork Pupusas, which comes with a side of spicy slaw! This was plenty of food, at least half of which would travel home with me. And included with my order was a nice quantity of chicarrones de harina (a pinwheel shaped, puffed wheat, very popular, Mexican street snack) along with a small container of the house salsa. These wheat puffs are easy to make, not especially labor intensive, so I assume they, liked everything else, were made in house. I had this many times from street vendors in several different open air markets in Mexico City. These from this restaurant are nice and crunchy, but a bit under seasoned - missing was a healthy dash of saltiness! But dipping them in the provided salsa made them a moot point - this salsa is smoking. and you may, as well! The Sope was layered with a plentiful amount of fork tender, shredded carnitas, and though the traditional outside crust was absent, this was a righteous item. The Chorizo Tacos were equally good with plenty of fresh tasting , ground sausage topped with chopped onion and cilantro, with fresh sliced radish and lime wedges providing additional flavor and texture. Only one tortilla per taco is used here, so there will be more than a little spillage - napkin up for sure! The Cheese and Pork Pupusas were hearty & well grilled, but a bit bland on their own - that's where the spicy slaw and salsa come to the rescue. Excellent food, great service, and nice value - hard to see a reason not to seek this local spot out. Ambiance - 2 Food - 4.5 Service - 4.5 Value - 4.5“
“Great Authentic Mexican food. Steak and Chicken Sopes are better than anywhere else around here! The owner and employees have been there a long time and are really great, pleasant people! When I’m in town I go there at least 2/3 times a week. Steak tacos are some of the best around also! Keep up the Great work!“
“Chip, Chips, hot chips!!! YUMMMM!!! Their chips are fresh, warm, and crisp! Perfect for their drinkable salsa! The tableside Guacamole was "meh". It was very bland, not much onion, no jalapeño, some lime, some cilantro. Maybe it would be better if it were made tableside instead of in the kitchen behind the scenes. My Quesaburria was good, meat was a little dry- good thing there's the beef consommé! Flavor wasn't bad; I've had better. The charro beans were delicious! The staff are VERY attentive. Multiple workers asked if everything was ok as the passed by. The restaurant is very decorated; music plays in the background. This being my first visit, I'd return to try something else.“
“Authentic Mexican at Los Potros in Kernersville was an absolute win this week. Some coworkers and I met up for lunch and we sat down immediately, but it filled up fast after 12:15. Keep that in mind if you come for lunch. We were given a two sided menu (English and Spanish) and there were specials written on a menu board by the kitchen. I ordered the carnitas torta and it was one of the best I've ever had! I split with my friend who ordered the carne asada tacos and the caldo de pollo rojo (red chicken soup). It was all amazing! Big portions and great prices. This place is nothing to look at on the inside, but let the food speak for itself! I can't wait to go back and try another one of their daily specials. And next time I'll take more pictures.“
“My son heard about their robot server so he wanted to eat here. We were in Kernersville for the afternoon so we ate at Don Juans for lunch. The restaurant was more updated than other similar Americanized Mexican restaurants. I was happy that you could get the lunch menu on Saturdays. We had the cheese dip which was tasty. The chips were warm and the salsa tasted pretty good. I wish it had more cilantro in it. The lunch fajitas I ordered were good. They did not come in the sizzling plate so it was not as fun. The shrimp and chicken were delicious. The steak was a bit dry but the toppings made it taste yummy. The rice and beans were fine. Overall a solid place for lunch or dinner.“
“This place is a hidden gem in Kernersville! TORTILLAS- homemade made to order - so delicious! QUESADILLA- fried, yes that's what I said fried- I should have ordered more than 1!! SHOPPING- the restaurant is in the back, while you wait walk around the market. They have grocery items- but also so many items- I felt like I walked into a market in Mexico. The Pottery is so beautiful, clothing embroidered with colorful flowers, shoes as me boots and more. Before I left bought lots of produce to fill my fruit bowl at home.“
“Absolutely love this place! Me and my boyfriend eat here everytime he's in town, and we love it! The food is amazing, the service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is great! The food is priced very well so you definitely get a bang for your buck!“
“I knew when I drove by this place on my way back home I knew it was going to be good. If you like to pick up healthy options while you're traveling, this is a place you can come. Ordered the chicken Chipotle salad, Pollo taco, side of broccoli and pineapple water and it was amazing.Vegetarian options: Broccoli“
