This is on private property, and the owners and neighbors REALLY don't want anyone to trespass.

On private property. Once you get to the water the land is not cleared so there is not a good view. Possibly better across the river.

Don't use these directions. Will not take you to the river but a private home and property. Also, if anyone has better directions please share.

Rating for directions, not the site. Google Maps took me down Lower River Rd and along a powerline on Cape Fear Lane, which led to a driveway to a house across the river from Mermaid Point. Looks like the wrong route.

Good place for flat heads

Must be reached from north of the point. Go down a long gravel road, come to a gate with no trespassing signs. Go about 300yds through a trail, brush and some mud untill you reach the point. The trail is navigable in April but probably bug invested in summer. It was incredible to see the birth of the Cape Fear River. It's a nice bike ride through the country side.

I really don't be understand everyone else's review. My husband and I had a rather large lunch here after kayaking Cape Fear River. It was a Sunday afternoon and not to busy. We were quickly greeted by a host and they offered a table or booth. They have wonderful outdoor seating over looking the river but it was to warm for us after kayaking for the last few hours. We were seated quickly and asked what we would like to drink right away. When we asked about specials they also brought us a drink menu. I got this huge fish bowl mixed drink for $9 and my husband got a $4 draft beer (it was the drink special that day). We took some time looking at menu and decided to go BIG! I got the crawfish Mac and cheese which was absolutely delicious. Perfect spice level for me, creamy, and the bread crumb top was delicious. All our food came out hot. My husband got the bbq sampler and we were going to get a loaded baked potato as a side but I guess they don't do that till 4pm. We got Yukon mashed instead and giant onion rings. The brisket was very good, tender, and not to much fat. All of the bbq was eastern style. My husband loved it with the chicken being our least favorite. It's a big dish that will feed 2-3 people but I had to try the crawfish Mac and cheese. You also get fluffy buttered dinner rolls. We left stuffed and very happy. We also have enough left overs for dinner and a late night snack. We unfortunately were to full to try some bread pudding. Next time we're in the area we would definitely go back. We had nothing but great food and service. It seemed like the food took a little longer than most to come out but it was worth it. We also spent a lot of time making up our minds.

This place came recommended by the next door river outfitters. I was excited about checking it out post kayaking trip. I checked in with the hostess and asked for a table outside since I had my dog with me. No one ever brought me a menu, asked for a drink order, it was like I was invisible. I left after 15 minutes of baking in the sun.

Second time I stopped here. Both times I went in through the front door and asked to be seated on the patio since I had my dog with me. The first time, I left 10 minutes after being seated since I was never approached by a server. This time, I waited for over 5 minutes at the hostess belittle being seated. Once seated, I was was just about to leave when the server came out and took my drink order. She brought me out. Y drink, a draft beer, and took my food order. As I'm writing this, I have been done with my beer for over fifteen minutes and I have yet to be approached to see if I would like another. Even if the food is the best I have ever experienced, which I doubt, it will surely not compensate for the horrific service. Ordered bourbon surf and turf. Couldn't even finish. Everything tasted like a grilled orange. The shrimp and the steak tasted identical, just different textures. No complaint from the pup though on the child's burger she got. But even she's getting bored with just sitting here waiting for the bill....

After having gone to this restaurant many times over the years I was extremely disappointed not only with the food but the service today. After seeing how much the prices have been raised i was then shocked to be told they no longer bring hush puppies baskets to the table. You have to order them as a side item. $3.00 for 5 hush puppies. Then after waiting to well over an hour for our food it arrived cold. The pulled pork was greasy and way over salted. The cole slaw was only huge chunks of cabbage with no dressing. We had to repeatedly ask for refills on our drinks. We arrived just after the restaurant opened so they were not overly busy. We left all our food on the plates having only eaten a few bites. We expressed our dismay with the food, we were charged full price and not offered anything not even an apology. We will NOT be going back in the future.

Food was ok. Service was really slow. What we thought would be a quick lunch took almost 2 hours. Would not have minded but was in a bit of a hurry to get back on the road. Had a long trip ahead of us.

Got there for a burger and beer on Sunday, August 18. Service was slow due to: 1) the hired help returning to college at Campbell and 2) a new chef with a new menu. Expect a New Orleans Cajun spin to the dishes. This was one of the best motzerrla popper appetizers my wife and I ever had. Just make sure to eat the cherry tomatoes with the poppers, not separately. Great views of the Cape Fear River. Not perfect, but we will be back.
