My parents heard about this restaurant on Tarheel Travelers and we decided to check it out during lunch today. We were not disappointed! We dined in and still left with so much food. The sweet tea was huge and DELICIOUS! The fish was hot and well seasoned. The yams, string beans and mac and cheese were so good! We had walnut cake for dessert. I'm taking my time eating it because I only have one slice and it taste so good! Hats off to an excellent cook and an amazing, gracious host. We will be back!

Irene is just a pure sweetheart....love her to pieces!!!Stancil's has gone downhill & it's really time for Mr Tom to retire from cooking. I ordered Hamburger Steak dinner & he pure burnt the meat & onions up. The gravy tasted like grease and the meat had no seasoning. Mac n cheese absolutely horrible, it appeared to be a box of Kraft with melted hoop cheeseand put in the microwave. Cabbages were served cold & had absolutely no seasoning!! Not to mention we had to wait a hour 45 min for our food while trying to fight the flies from eating us alive?? You get served hush puppies & please don't need anything because that's another 30 min wait. The server never came back to our table to refill our drinks or ask us if we were ok. Your food is brought out in a very cheap 3 part sectional styrofoam tray. It appears to be very unorganized in the kitchen and very short staff. The food is absolutely horrible but that's because they need help & culinary training. I only saw Mr Tom cooking, 1 daughter running around looking confused and unpleasant to deal with who we're taking orders.I feel bad for Mrs Irene because she worked hard to establish this restaurant but her Kids are doing an injustice to her labor not making sure they are serving customers good quality food. It's a SHAME!! No one there seems to care & please don't ask for anything in the restaurant you will wait another 30-40 min to get it. The daughter surely won't ask if you need anything....very poor customer service!!! Mrs Irene came out to talk with us & apologize for the wait & told us our dinner would be on her for the wait. The daughter then runs over to tell Mrs Irene that we had only been there for 45min. Mine you we still didn't have food or drinks, Mrs. Irene waved her hand at her daughter & said to her, "I said I have their dinner covered they been waiting too long." Love Mrs Irene!!......She fix the food orders & run the cash register but her daughters ought to be ashamed of their sorry selves!! Mrs Irene would NEVER serve poor quality food to anyone, NEVER!! Them daughters just too big & lazy. Horrible Experience & WE'RE NOT PLANNING ON EVER RETURNING!?Parking: Parking area small.. not good parking in grass & gravel

Bring your patience, but it's worth the wait. We waited about 45 minutes. Mom had smothered pork chops, mac and cheese and cabbage. I had fried fish, mac and cheese and green beans. We shared a small gumbo. Atmosphere is very friendly. People were from all over after the blurb on Tarheel

Food was excellent! Personally, I had liver and onions over rice, best I've had in a while. However, we waited to get our food for over an hour and a half (and this was during lunch with maybe 10 people there, that I could see)! Not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but cooking didn't seem to be a priority. Our server was awesome and came around every so often to keep the tea filled.Side note, the food was brought out in Styrofoam containers with plastic ware, which did make cutting up the liver a little more difficult than it should have been.

The best hidden gem around! Ms. Irene is the sweetest,& the food is ALWAYS great. I have had mostly everything she offers & it never disappoints! The amount of food you get on the plate is definitely worth the price for some good southern home-cooked food. Her cakes and pies are always amazing. Make sure to get some collards or cabbage to. Either call your order ahead of time or be prepared to wait. Mostly everything they cook is made to order. She does have specials every day and specific things already prepared, but they are usually busy. You will not be disappointed! Highly recommend

Best soul food!! Fried chicken is the bomb!! Love this place. I got fried chicken , collards and mac cheese. I was in heaven. Lord that food the best I have ever had!! You got to try this place!!
