When I walked into the restaurant, I was very impressed by the clean and spacious environment and the friendly hostess. I said to myself, "This is going to be an enjoyable dining experience." Sadly, I was wrong. The server was not engaging, and I don't think he said thank you even once. The only thing worse than the server was the very bland food. I had a combo (burrito, enchilada, and taco), and it was perhaps the worst Mexican food I have ever had. I think the cook forgot to add any seasoning, and the refried beans were a watery soup-like liquid. I also think it is the only Mexican restaurant I've been to where you had to choose between beans OR rice as a side. Normally, platters include beans AND rice. To top off the experience, the prices were significantly higher than most Mexican restaurants.

Solid, fast lunch service. Fresh chips, the salsa is awesome with a hint of a smoked chipotle. Recommendation Seafood Chimichangas if you're looking for a new spin desire for a Mexican Seafood dish.

Jaqueline is always so friendly, positive and attentive. She is our favorite, ask for her on your next visit! The food is always hot and delicious and margaritas always hit the spot! We love the outdoor patio on a nice evening. Highly recommend!!!

This Place!! The best warm chips I have had and the service was impeccable. I love the cleanliness. The prices are typical for a sit down restaurant but we'll worth every penny!

I am giving it a 1 star because there is nothing lower. The food was so bland. I had a chicken enchilada and a chicken taco, the enchilada sauce tasted like it was from a can and the chicken was just boiled chicken no spice nothing. the rice tasted like Asian rice from a box (which would not have been bad if I was eating Asian food) and the beans well...if you want bland, no taste food that is over priced then go for it. This was one of the worst food experiences I have had in a while I could not even eat it. Took one bite of the taco and that was all I could stomach. AND yes we paid an over, over expensive bill for TERRIBLE food. Wont go back though and I would not recommend to anyone one.

Average Mexican food, indifferent service, seriously overpriced for the area. The portions are generous, and venue decent. So many better places in Lincoln... no reason to return to el Potrero or el Toro.

El Portero is a wonderful option for south central Lincoln. Located in the Williamsburg neighborhood they offer authentic Mexican cuisine at fair prices with a great taste. My suggestion pass on the normal margarita and go with the higher priced Blue Agave, its to die for. Happy eating.Kid-friendliness: I saw lots of families last time. Kids portions available.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access here folks

First of all our server was attentive and friendly. Chips tasted like old dirty oil.My carne asada burrito was a tortilla filled with way overcooked steak with no seasoning at all covered in white cheese dip, even covered in liquidy queso somehow super dry. Bland beans and mushy rice to accompany.Wife had enchiladas with unseasoned hamburger and enchilada sauce that tasted like nothing.Ordered a Modelo and drank that one, got a second, due to the Sahara desert in my throat from dry steak, and because I like beer. My wife pointed to my bottle and the best by date was 18 months expired. I'm sure I'm not going to die from it, but you can see where their standards are.Pointed it out to the server and he was very apologetic about it and was nice enough to take that beer off my bill. I, personally, would have taken the other beer off the bill or maybe the wife's drink to make up for such an awful oversight but they get this review instead. That aside, the food was horrible. I'm pretty sure that my 95 year old white Grandpa, that hates garlic and salt, could whip up a better burrito with a goat and an onion. There are way better restaurants in town.
