Original review: 4 stars for great food and good service. This review: 2 stars for good food but inconsistent service. On my last three visits, the only response to my English-language order was "no tengo." They seem to optimize their operation for certain peak hours. Outside of those times, both food and English communication are scarce. The flashing "OPEN" sign isn't a reliable signal that they have food available; I'm working on a theory that a good-size line at the window might be a better indication. The food (when they have it): This El Pollo Patron is a food truck specializing in chicken grilled over a bed of coals. The Patron quesadilla with chicken and carne asada nachos are both excellent. The meat is tender and flavorful. I haven't tried a whole grilled chicken yet. The salsas are better than average, with lots of heat but a pleasant aftertaste. They also have typical Mexican fare--tacos, tortas, and brightly colored sodas.Location: They're situated on the northeast corner of 42nd and L. Unless traffic is very light, it's easiest to enter traveling westbound on L. They have pretty much embedded themselves on this corner, with utility connections and a big drink cooler, so I don't expect to see them at other locations very often. They seem to be transforming the building on the corner into a food truck/restaurant equipment depot, or perhaps just a boneyard.Ordering: Traffic noise makes communication in any language difficult. Sometimes there's a guy who is 100% fluent in English and Spanish, leaving no doubt that my order is understood. Other times there's a lady who doesn't know even basic "restaurant English" and doesn't have the skillset to coach me through an order with my basic Spanish. Ordering exactly one item, in Spanish, with no questions or special requests, seems like it could work.Bottom line: Lots of potential, but the stress of ordering will probably keep me away for a while.

Someone once told me that San Diego has the best fish tacos in the world. Well, if that's the case, I may have to road trip to compare it to the ones here! The fish was perfectly fried and not too greasy along with a fresh avocado wedge. There was a double taco shell made from corn; complete with a small container of salsa with just the right amount of heat! Service was friendly and took about 10 mins to get my order. There's limited parking but parking on a side street and walking here is worth it!! iEs muy bien!

Whenever my husband and I pass by the intersection of 42nd L Streets we always see this food truck located in a corner of a car lot. After months of saying that we're going to try it, we finally did. As we drove to 42nd and L we had to make a U turn on L since the food truck was in the other side of the street. There was a bunch of cars on the lot but we were able to find parking behind an old building. As we walked over we saw the they had a table set out and the light that blinked "open". We saw that they didn't only sell chicken but they sold an array of dishes like tortas, tacos, etc. You could buy a whole chicken or half a chicken and it came work little side dishes like beans and rice. We decided to go with half a chicken. As we drove home, we were excited to dig in! The chicken reminded me of El Pollo Loco, a restaurant in California that specializes in their chicken. The taste made me reminisce. The chicken wasn't too dry or fatty, it was made just right. If you're looking for a place to try chicken, I would recommend this place.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now and it definitely disappointed me. It’s definitely overpriced for what you get. Chicken was okay. Rice was mushy way to much water. You also get beans with it and it’s mostly all juice only a few beans with a couple of bacon pieces. Not sure what’s up with the tortillas also they are paper thing. I really wish this place would have been better.

This is my weekly hangout for tacos with the co-workers. Their tacos are "street" style with your choice of meat along with cilantro and onion. You can order more toppings for additional charge. The tortillas are well oiled and prepped, and their steak is great. You will usually get two salsas with your tacos, a mild green and a medium red. The flavor on their medium red is fantastic and really elevates the spice and punch of the tacos. Oh yes, and they're very affordable. Tacos run just $1.75 and are only $1.25 Monday-Wednesday, so you can get a plate full for less than eight bucks. It's not a busy place on weekday afternoons, but the the food is worth it!

We are not from Lincoln but did a quick search on Siri for Mexican restaurants. La Cabaña came up with good reviews on Yelp, 4 star average. After going there for dinner, I checked the reviews to understand why our meal pretty much sucked. Most of the good reviews were from 2017. It has a huge bar area and equally huge dining area. At 5 pm on a Sat. night we were the only customers. The service was terrible. It took forever for the girl to take our drink orders and even longer to take our food order. She did not appear to want to be a server tonight. My husband had to get up and go to the bar to order a second beer. I was never offered a soda refill or water. She forgot the guacamole dip until my husband again got up and went to the bar to ask about it. He ordered a chicken fajita burrito. He said it was just a plain boiled chicken burrito, wrapped in foil, no rice or beans with no flavor at all. I ordered chicken enchilada suizas. The chicken was flavorable, the green peppers raw. Rice was dry and refried beans not tasty. I left those. Th complimentary chips and salsa, chips were good, salsa was merely tomato sauce with chopped onions and cilantro in it. However, the guacamole dip was delicious. Would we go back? Not a chance.

While visiting Lincoln, we opted to give the local Mexican cuisine (not a chain). Having passed La Cabana on Cornhisker, we thought we'd give it a try. We found it odd that at 5:30 on Saturday, the place would be empty. When we left, we understood why. First, the server acted she didn't even want to be there, much less serve us. The dip for the chips was watered-down tomato sauce. I had to seek out the server to remind her we ordered guacamole for the chips. I ordered a fajita chicken burrito. When it came, it was biled chicken inside a tortilla without any spices or other ingredients. Can we spell bland? After waiting for the bill, I had to again seek out the server. We will never be back and will never recommend this establishment.

The Guadalajara Style Tacos may well be the best Mexican food in Lincoln.

You can buy Eli's green salsa to-go! That way you can drink it at home.
