So my family and I just left from the scenic rail ride down the street from here. We randomly googled restaurants near me. This place popped up. They were called 1896 Grill and Tavern. My family of four came in and was greeted by Kevin. He was so helpful and funny. The food for this small place was Amazing!! I live about 2 hours away and I wouldn't mind coming back up here just for this food. Highly recommended!!

I had booked their room for a birthday party 6 months in advance the menu was simple hamburgers and fries for 50 people the hamburgers were served raw and when I say raw they were still mooing the rolls for the hamburgers were served frozen I brought this to the staff's attention three diffrent times I was told that the cook was having a hard time cooking the food because he was using a grill in the dark. The staff did not remove the raw hamburgers I had to go around to each of my guest with a plate in hand to collect the raw meat which in itself was embarrassing my guest couldn't eat because three trays of hamburgers later they were still raw when I got the invoice it was seven dollars a head higher than what I was quoted after waiting around to get the invoice fixed they were still charging me for the raw hamburgers they did offer me a $50 gift card to eat there again like that's going to happen I got in touch with the owner she agreed to take 75% off the food bill and that she would send me a reimbursement check oh she did send a check but it was only for 25%off the food bill when I contacted her about the mistake she said I was wrong and that I needed to stop harassing her. So fair warning if your looking to host a party here don't please keep looking and spend your hard earned money on a good venue.

food was raw the rolls where frozen it was disgusting the staff did not remove the raw food I had to go around to each of my guest to collect it was given a lame excuse why the food was raw then after contacting the owner she offered me 75% off the food bill then failed to follow through on it claiming that I misunderstood her when the only thing on the menu was hamburgers and fries you would think that they could get it right and when your guest couldn't eat the meal and most had to go home hungry there is something seriously wrong with that but the worst part is when the owner refuses to stick to her word about the refund she had offered please if your considering this place for a function I urge you to keep looking dont waste your hard earned money here

I told the event workers about the raw food I got the excuse oh well the cook is working in the dark.the staff did not even go around to collect the raw food.I had to go around to each of my guest to collect the raw food which was extremely embarrassing. Some guest even left because they were hungry. When I got my invoice at the end of the night it was wrong they tried to add an extra $7 per head on top of what I was originally quoted, I had to sit around an wait for the owner to call back to fix the invoice then I was offered $50 gift card for the inconvenience over the food, really like I would eat there again. After contacting the owner by email then by phone she agreed to take 75% Off the food portion of the bill in which I agreed but when I received the reimbursement it was off by over $100 when I recontacted the owner she said I had miss understood her that it was ment for the burgers only so I still had to pay for raw food. I would never recommend this place to anyone if I could give it no stars I would please beware of this place.

1896 Grill & Tavern is the clubhouse restaurant and bar at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course, which serves breakfast, lunch, and light dinner. This establishment is operated by Smoke Shack Southern Barbecue in Boscawen. The food offerings here is standard pub fare including sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, appetizers, salads & soup. Breakfast items include eggs, breakfast sandwiches, omelets, and French toast. Prices seem reasonable, most items $6-$10. The atmosphere is casual with plenty of indoor table seating and bar counter with seating in one open room (flatscreen TVs on the wall) and outside patio seating. I stopped by for a light dinner on a very hot and humid day. I sat myself in the dining area and was given a menu. I ordered the Nachos Grande ($10) and the Barbecue Beef Sandwich ($10) with fries. The food came out promptly in under 10 minutes. A bottle of chilled BBQ sauce (by the Smoke Shack) was dropped off too. The Nachos Grande was a big plate of crunchy tortilla chips topped with melted cheese sauce, diced tomato, onion, lettuce, and tender pulled pork, sour cream & salsa on the side. The nachos were filling, but not fantastic and not served hot at all. It was very hot outside, so maybe it was fitting to have a cold appetizer. The Barbecue Beef Sandwich had plenty of tender shaved beef & sweet and smoky BBQ sauce on a big round toasted bun, served with a pile of fries. The sandwich was pretty good with some added chipotle mustard sauce (on the table) and the golden fries were served hot and crispy. Overall, the food I had was just basic pub grub. The service was very laid back here.
