This was my third time at cup of joe and I’ll definitely be returning! The staff is friendly helpful and professional. They make a great latte along with a delicious chocolate hazelnut croissant. Brought the boys in last week during the quieter part of the day to allow Chunk (our reactive ½ of the duo) the opportunity to sniff out the scene. Really pleased with how well he did and the very kind female barista that made it possible. I’ll include there’s a nice viewing window that Blue put to good use!

I enjoy this place. I love that it is a bar and coffee shop. Reminds me of places in Europe.

Cute little coffee shop I visited early in the morning. I loved the vanilla latte and being able to sit at a window counter.

Had a previous review just critiquing the intense politicization of the decor in the cafe and got a deeply smarmy response from the owner telling me "good luck finding apolitical coffee in Portsmouth" (which I did literally did a few days after she said that) and basically telling me never to come back (wasn't planning on it) over a criticism, even though I was never rude to anyone in the building or in the review. Good way to run a business!Owner's original response to my original review was deleted (probably because she became assistant mayor and knew it was a bad look) so I deleted my original review and now providing this update: since the time of my original review the owner has made the local news over being racist towards White people and had to "apologize". Further confirming what I had assumed in the original review. (Wonder if this update will get another nasty response or if the owner wisened up? ?)The only thing going for this place is something the owner had no part in, the historic building and location. If this business was anywhere else it would have failed. Service and food are mediocre, as seen by the dozens of other reviews stating the same.Go bring the politics and attitude to Mass.

I am all about supporting local coffee shops and frequent them all around Portsmouth but I think there is room for improvement in regards customer service at Cup of Joe's. I was very put off by the way I was treated today by the barista. I order an Iced Vanilla Latte with almond milk 1/2 the amount of vanilla. It is my go to order at any coffee shop. The barista used oat milk instead. When I said I ordered Almond milk, she told me I did not. The woman in front of me ordered an oat milk latte which I think is where the confusion came from. This was very clearly her mistake. There was not an apology but instead a terrible attitude when she said she would remake the drink. I totally understand that people make mistakes but to not apologize and talk back to me when it was her mistake was not okay. I did not like how I was treated and do not plan to return. I have enjoyed the coffee every time I have been but until their baristas are trained better in customer service, I prefer to go to other coffee shops that would treat me better.
