My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have traveled the world, and I can say with complete confidence that we had THE BEST breakfast of our lives at Friendly Toast in Portsmouth NH. I had The Irish Benedict, and my wife had The Hash Quiche. Oh my gosh! They were off-the-chain delicious. These aren't like a standard breakfast from IHOP or Denny's. These are breakfast choices I don't recall having had before. The food was so good that we went two mornings in a row. If you're ever in Portsmouth, eat here. Get there right at 8 am because it fills up in a hurry. Basil was our waiter the first morning, and Summer was our waitress the second morning, and they both did a great job.

The Sklarmageddon Omelet was the best omelet I’ve ever had! Plus, the service was fantastic and the place had a ton of character. Can’t wait to go back!

Outstanding eclectic vibe. Diner style food but a lot more depth and freshness. I wish I had this place in my city.

Fantastic brunch spot in the heart of Portsmouth. The decor is absolutely show-stopping. You’ll enjoy the perfect ambiance to pair with your delicious dishes.Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free options available. Chocolate chip gluten free pancakes were delicious.

So I was introduced to this place years ago as a fun edgy breakfast place, and it is, though I hate the edgy descriptor. It's also not cheap, but the location I go to is Portsmouth nh, and nothing there is cheap. At the time I wasn't a HUGE breakfast fan, as I'm truly not a morning person. I did enjoy it on occasion, and I liked this place from the get go. I like breakfast foods more now as I age. However, their breakfast foods are good, and interesting and slightly weird. I like that. The egg white scrambles they have are an interesting melding of tastes and textures. The home baked breads are impressive. The guy scramble with avocado is my favorite. Now as I cook myself breakfast foods more, I have incorporated some of their ideas into my own cooking, though I'm not nearly as good at it as their cooks. Worth a visit.

The four of us had a delightful lunch. I'm always impressed by clean, attractive restrooms, which was true here. Our server, Basil, was very nice and even took our picture for us. Great food and fun retro atmosphere.

Let me start off by saying that this place has a diner/eclectic throwback feel. The walls are bright green and adorned with random things from years ago. The menu is a lot, so give it a look before you arrive otherwise you'll spend some time trying to decide. After brewing over what to get, I opted for the Chorizo Benny's, which is eggs Benedict with, you guessed it, chorizo. Great flavors, perfectly poached eggs, all served with a side of homemade fries. The meal (and basically everything on the menu) is a lot of food, so I skipped lunch and wasn't hungry until dinner rolled around. Staff was super friendly. If in Portsmouth again, I'd definitely visit gor breakfast or brunch!

Very good breakfast/brunch place in the heart of Portsmouth. Large, diverse menu. Had an omelette and their chorizo benny. Both delicious! Service was very friendly (as you would hope for a restaurant called the Friendly Toast!). Highly recommend!

I have been to the Friendly Toast more times than I can count over the past 3 decades. This is by far the worst service I ever had. It took a long time for our server to come to our table to ask me what I wanted to drink. I was waiting for a friend and I really wanted a hot cocoa (it was cold outside). It took a while for my hot cocoa. The whipped cream was already melted by the time she brought it to me. Then we ordered home fries as a starter. Which never came. The food took a while to come out. My waffle fries were cold. Our server spent a lot of time chatting with the cooks in the kitchen. She only came to our table after our first bite of food to see how it was. She dropped off the check. She did not charge us for the home fries. Then my friend went to the restroom ? then I did. Thinking that our server came back to the table to collect the check. She never came back. Luckily we paid in cash. On our way out she was walking back into the restaurant with a shopping bag.
