Hidden gem of deliciousness ! The atmosphere is super intimate like having dinner in a good friends parlor . The food is unique and delectable. Everything is made from scratch even the salad dressing and it shows .A don’t miss when you are in town !As a bonus , all the staff are so friendly and feel like a good friend you are catching up with . Can’t wait to go back .

The most delicious crab cakes I’ve ever tried. Cozy atmosphere. Lovely restaurant and friendly staff. Was rather quick service too.

Crab cakes and steak were delicious and our server was so sweet! The soup and salad were both a bit too salty for my taste. Overall would definitely come back again.

Love the food at Freda's - our favorite restaurant in Cape May and Cape May's best kept secret. Flozzie is wonderful!

Recently dined at Freda’s Cafe with friends ( 8 of us total), the place is small and quaint but we had plenty of room to move around. The decor made me feel like I was in someone’s dining room. We had reservations and were seated immediately, the staff was friendly and very efficient, the food was delicious, every one of us enjoyed our meal and some had doggy bags to enjoy later. I have been to Cape May many times and have walked right by this place ( because it’s right by Washington Mall) and I must have missed it but believe me, I will not miss it again. I plan to return with my family very soon!

An absolutely wonderful meal! We started with the seafood bisque, which had the perfect consistency and was so rich in flavor. Salads were next and the main courses were an order of crab cakes and a shellfish dish (shrimp, scallops & lobster) with artichoke hearts, pesto breadcrumbs, a really yummy sauce and served with sticky rice. Sadly, we just didn’t have room for dessert but the options there sounded fantastic.

I had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant. The seafood bisque was a complete letdown - my bowl didn't have one piece of shrimp, lobster, or crab and it had no flavor either. To make matters worse, when the waitress brought my salad, she presented me with the choice of Thousand Island dressing or some ginger concoction. I went with Thousand Island, only to be greeted by a watery, flavorless disaster. It was evident that the salad was freshly made by the chef, which made its dismal taste even more bafflingHer attitude sucked too. While she sensed the dissatisfaction I tried to hide, instead of addressing my concerns or attempting to make things right, she became defensive and seemed personally offended

If you want a great meal this is the spot, but you better make a reservation otherwise try someplace else. Best crab cakes I ever had and my wife had the Chicken Frances which was also terrific! Our waitress Flossy took good care of us. We will definitely return.

Been going to Cape May for 25 years. This is the first year. I’ve been to Freda’s on the recommendation of a friend, although it is on the side street and doesn’t get as much traffic as the main mall, the minute we walked in we were warmly greeted by our server, Eddie, and treated to an evening of elegant and Upscale delicious food. Because it’s BYOB, we were able to bring a delicious bottle of white wine to enjoy throughout the meal. We ordered shumai as a starter to share. Each one was tender filled with seafood and the accompaniments were delicious. Then we ordered their special crabcakes. These were not typical crabcakes loaded with breading for stuffing these crabcakes were filled to the brim with big white pieces of lump crab cake sweetened by a mango Sauce at the bottom served over mashed potatoes with asparagus. I feel like I found a gem in Cape May and an alternative to all the old standards. I would clean up the place and do a little marketing to make it a little bit more modern but otherwise I wouldn’t change a thing.

So happy with our meal and experience at Freda's! We were 6 people, and everyone was pleased with their dish. Loved the atmosphere, the service. BYOB was a plus for us. Thanks!!

This is a small restaurant with just 10 tables. It is BYOB like many restaurants in NJ. The atmosphere is cone as you are. The food is 5 star. My daughter had duck for the first time, and it was cooked to perfection with a sweet barbecue sauce which was tomato based but rich with honey. I had the seafood artichoke dish with rigatoni. The seafood was cooked to perfection, and so was the pasta which came with a very light cream sauce. Although the dish was too big to finish, I managed to eat 1/2 of the key lime cheesecake because U couldn’t resist. It looked odd because of its green color, but tasted like like silk in your mouth. The rasberry sauce over top of it was the perfect compliment. The sauce was light and fresh.

Terrible place. Terrifying prices. Garbage food. They overcharge you and add things in the bill that haven’t been ordered. Just save your money and dine in much more better restaurants.

We were really impressed with the food at Freda's. We're NYC snobs, and our meals held up completely. First, we had spring rolls with crab meat and artichoke - so unique and so delicious. Next, my husband had the tortellini with seafood and pesto - really flavorful and shrimp cooked just right. I can't remember what mine was called, but it was seafood and pasta (rice also an option) and a very light cheese sauce. It was amazing. So much seafood, plus artichoke, which is my favorite. Meals were served with homemade rolls. There was also a complementary salad course, but that was disappointing - just lettuce and I didn't like the dressing. We were too full for dessert. the coffee was good. The service was perfect - timely but not too quick, friendly, but not overbearing, just perfect. We chose to sit in side which had a great atmosphere. The outside looked nice too. Very fair prices. We forgot it was BYOB and went without, which was fine.
