I live walking distance from Bekka’s. When she first opened we had some jerk chicken and oxtail. It was okay but not great. However, this morning I had the ackee and salt fish with banana and yam, and it’s the best I ever had. I grew up in East Orange and have been to various Caribbean restaurants and this was the best Jamaican breakfast ever!

After tasting Caribbean influenced beer at Montclair Brewery we needed Caribbean food! We found Bekka's tucked in on a quiet street in a cozy neighborhood and were treated to yummy Jamaican meals. J*** chicken, curry chicken, sweet plantains, rice and beans, stewed cabbage. And you had better like it spicy because Bekka does not hold back. The curry was ?. ? The medium and large dishes were both enough for 2 meals. I want to explain the "atmosphere" rating though. This is mostly a take-out spot with 1 table and a small counter. Not typically what would earn 5 stars but I don't think it's fair to take stars away when a spot offers exactly what is expected. It was clean and tidy and that's all that matters IMO.

Honestly one of the best Jamaican restaurants, this is my go to place and the oxtail is definitely the best!!

During my visit, I experience good customer service; an employee is kind answering my questions. The Spinach Patty is the only Vegan option I know of at this location, and I like the subtle (more so tingly than a distinct spice flavor) spiciness mixing with the predominant Spinach flavor. The Patty is juicy as well, not a dry Patty. The Pineapple Ginger drink is decent and refreshing (more so Ginger-y than Pineapple-y). The establishment has indoor seating (with a working TV) and accepts different forms of payment.

You will not regret this! My husband and I were in the mood for oxtails and decided to go here based on the reviews! My husband found out this spot is newly owned by a woman who cooks in homage to her mom.Well ma’am if I may say, you have made your mother proud! The oxtails were fall off the bone delicious, gravy was banging, the cabbage well seasoned and the plantain was perfect! We only bought one plate not sure we would like it only to turn around and purchase another.Thank you for a great lunch and we will be back

The other day I got Bekka’s Bakery Jamaican Cuisine for lunch. I ordered their Oxtail Dinner w/White Rice & Cabbage. Absolutely loved the gravy the oxtails were in! The oxtails were cooked to perfection as well too. They were falling off the bone, yet sturdy. The cabbage was phenomenal as well! I would absolutely recommend Bekka’s Bakery to anyone in the East Orange/Bloomfield area. Great food. Can not wait to try their other dishes. The stew beef looked amazing!
