We were looking for vegetarian chines fare and found it here on yelp so we gave this place a try. Eating a super early dinner at 5:30 with kids in tow led to wonderful attentive experience before any potential crowds. Service was fantastic and any questions we had were so politely addressed. The dishes came out fast, portions were generous and the flavors hit the notes we needed. Garlic pea shoots- don't be discouraged by the name. This is seasonal and a wonderful side to the rest of the food General Tso Tofu- very large serving, tofu has a slight crisp if you start eating immediately and a slight sweetness to the sauce. Would love to see a kung pao version with the peppers and peanuts! Veg fried rice- finally a place that does it right! Not just rice with a small pouring of frozen carrots and peas. This was great. Scallion Pancake- surprisingly not the standard version. This puffed up nicely and despite being deep fried was not greasy. Wonderful dipping sauce too! Homestyle Tofu- lots of mixed veg. This was not my favorite due to the "tobasco-esque" tanginess but a hit with my wife. There are some toys near the front to keep your kids (or you) busy while you wait but honestly the food comes out hot, fresh and fast- so you may as well just wait! We will be back!

A great local place! I always have gotten take out, so not sure how there in-restaurant service is. However, considering how friendly the cashier was, I don't doubt it would be any less. The take out is great! Not too oily like other Asian services. I love the broccoli chicken and noodles. All the items were well seasoned and tasted great. For the price for each item, I was able to feed a family of 4 in less than $50! In this day and age, doing take out hardly ever costs this less. I believe I got 5 items! This place deserves a shot especially for a weeknight take out meal!

It a shame this is the only Taiwanese restaurant in nj. Taiwanese Burger too fatty, nuggets soup is mostly water and not much ingredients, meatballs skin is way too thick, smoke chicken sliced like thin ham. I'd try other stuff instead.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Red Onion is a gem! The food is incredibly authentic, bursting with flavor, and remarkably fresh. The crispy fried pork intestines and Taiwanese meatballs are absolute must-tries. Discovering genuine mom-and-pop places is a joy, and David,( a retired NYC professional dancer and artist who still teaches dance classes in NJ), who runs the show, adds a wonderful personal touch to the experience. Highly recommended for a delightful culinary adventure!

Great vegetarian dinner! Our family isn't vegetarian but decided to get a few tofu dishes. Veg dumplings had crunchy veggies but I prefer the skin to be thinner. The general tofu was crispy, sweet and savory served with steamed broccoli. We got a tofu with black bean sauce and requested it spicy. This was my favorite. The tofu and broccoli was simple but great flavor. We requested 2 of the dishes made with soft tofu and they accommodated. The place is casual with lots of art on the walls.

I had the beef noodle soup. Broth was great, I do prefer thinner noodle than what they served but that's just my preference. Service was quick and friendly.

Red Onion serves authentic Taiwanese cuisine, including delicious vegetable dishes such as A菜 and (seasonally) 空心菜. The owner is very gracious and welcoming. The 茶葉蛋 (tea leaf egg) is tasty.

The only Taiwanese spot in central NJ and the best Taiwanese spot. I love their oyster omelet, and their braised pork belly over rice

Unfortunately, the food is really not worth going for. We ordered the most basic Taiwanese dishes and they weren't worth the visit.
