This restaurant is such a striking finding. I have been hiking in the area and became quite hungry, and I am so glad I found this place. I love polish food! I have been to Poland several times. The staff was friendly and met us with a smile, i was happy to see a diverse crowd, which was a great indication that the place is prosperous and famous among the Americans. The menu is simple but represents the cousins very well. I got a combo with sausage and pierogies, and those pierogies were incredible; the dough was fluffy; I have never eaten such a great pierogi; I wish I had a recipe cause I live In New York, and it is a little too far to travel every time. The kielbasa ( sausage) was juicy and flavorful! Overall, one of the best accidental findings. I am going to be back if I am around .

Good was beyond bland and priced didn't match portion served. We ordered several kinds of food to get a good sampling. Service was slow and slightly rude when we asked questions. Not being able to support a small business in our town is saddening.

I absolutely love this place! The golabki is amazing and the home made combo is ridiculous! I dream about their potato pancakes. This place is amazing!

What a find. A friend called me and told me about Home Made. As we were going to be in Hackettstown we decided to try the place. What can I say, absolutely delicious food. My husband had borscht and stuffed cabbage and I had the pierogis. We also enjoyed the lemon and lime drink (in a bottle it was Polish). All were delicious. We had crusdites (sp?) for dessert which were light and wonderful (even better than my grandmother's). Service was excellent and the restaurant has a nice and simple decoration. I didn't think the prices were too high. We will definitely be going back. This is truly a find and would highly recommend Home Made.

wow what can I say but... Amazing! We came in for our first time and was blown away at the food. It brought back memories of comfort food I had as a kid in a hungarian family! everything was so fresh and portions were more than adequate! we will be back for sure! Get the Stroganoff, and the stuffed cabbage! and heck everything else!

I have to be honest here, some of the food was great, some was flavorless. The Hungarian pancakes and the kielbasa were excellent, while the chicken soup and beef stroganoff had zero flavor. The pierogis are small but good, although they charge a couple extra dollars to pan fry them. The waitress told us they are much better pan fried. Well, if that's the case, don't nickel and dime us and charge full price and make them friend.

Amazing amazing amazing!!!! Soup was a meal by itself--white borscht!!!! Ribs fell off the bone. Grilled kielbasa was the best I've ever had. Hungarian pancake dish was off the charts-- potato pancakes were better than I've made at home and it came with a goulash that melted in your mouth. The folks were also so nice and couldn't have been more helpful!! I'd highly recommend going!!

Some weeks ago, I read the review left by Linda H. calling this place the "best accidental find," and the review stayed with me. For most of my life, I've really liked Slavic food, although I can't say I'm an "expert" about it, and the truth is that I haven't had it in a long time. When I was an adolescent, my parents took me to eat at the Ukranian National Home Restaurant on 2nd Ave. in NY (I could be wrong, but I think it used to be the Stuyvesant Casino, which catered to Jewish immigrants, back in the early part of the 20th century), and I really enjoyed it. To me, it was very tasty, and even a bit exotic. Evidently my parents didn't feel the same way, because we never returned. But as a young man, I would often travel there with friends, usually after a concert or hitting the bars, and we would gorge ourselves. The food was plentiful, delicious, and it didn't cost a lot of money. Later, when my birth mother was able to locate me and we made contact, I was introduced to her Irish-Ukranian husband (not my birth father), and we often ate at the Ukranian restaurants in the area while we became familiar with each other. However, after a few years, they separated, and my birth mother didn't retain any great love for Ukranian food. Why did I stop going? Good question. I suppose for the same reason I haven't had Indian food in a few years. I like it, but not all of my friends/family members do, and I don't like to eat alone. So, it's rare these days that I eat outside of the "comfort zone" that's been established by the preferences of friends/family (with my reluctant complicity, of course), and my increasingly fragile digestion. Still, Hackettstown is relatively close to where I live, I've been going there more and more during the past few years, and when an old friend indicated he needed to shop at Loews and maybe we could get a bite afterward, this place immediately came to mind. He wanted "traditional American" cuisine, or Italian, or Asian, but I decided to break out of that increasingly grating "comfort zone," and push for something that I actually wanted, and had been missing. There is something a bit creepy about Hackettstown's dark main street, but we weren't deterred. The street has metered parking, but it was after 6, and we were able to get a spot in front of the restaurant without having to pay (you don't have to ply the meter after 6pm). Inside, the restaurant was roomy and comfortable. We were escorted to a table off to the side, and given menus, as well as a bottle of water with 2 glasses. My friend squawked a bit about the prices, said the water glass reminded him of the shot glasses he used to drink out of during his alcoholic years, and then settled down as the menu offerings caught his eye. I'm not sure what the exact differences are between Polish and Ukranian cuisine, but there are some subtle differences. Still, everything was fresh and delicious. He ordered a mug of Borscht; I ordered a bowl of it, which came with mini mushroom pierogies. I've never heard of that before, but it was piping hot, and I actually burned my tongue in my haste to transfer the soup from the bowl to my gullet. We were served fresh bread that came with a cheese spread in one bowl, and pickles in the other. We both ordered the Pierogies and Kielbasa combo, which came with sauerkraut and more of the fresh bread, and one small bowl with mustard, another with sour cream. Again...excellent cuisine. My (minor) complaint would be that I wish they offered choices when it came to the pierogies. For example, when I ate them at the Ukranian place in NYC, I always ordered the cheese ones, with butter. The ones at Home Made were cheese, potato and mushroom, all mixed together. Despite that slight reservation, I scarfed them down as hastily as I did the soup. And the kielbasa was a revelation. I've never been the biggest fan of kielbasa because I always found the skin tough. This version of it was cooked

Wow wow wow!!!! Delicious authentic Polish cuisine. So friggin good!!! The bread, an appetizer, it worth the visit alone. Heavenly. Do yourself and your mouth a favor, eat here. I've never been so thoroughly impressed by a first visit.

The food was so authentic and delicious. Also it's the first restaurant in quite some time that the food came out piping hot which made my experience even that much better. Service was great and I can not wait to take my family. I will be back very soon and cant wait. I've been thinking about returning and what I want to try next since I stepped out their door.

The first time we came, ( a Friday night) I wrote them a stellar rating. This time we came of a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy, but they appeared to have three servers, which for their size should have been adequate. We ordered perogies as an appetizer, I ordered a cup of tea, and we ordered 4 entrees. The tea came in about 15 minutes. one hour later we were still waiting for our appetizer. In that hour, Patryk our waiter, never once came to the table, yet I saw him behind the counter looking at his phone. One of our friends got up approaching another waitress who was close by, asking for help. She redirected him to Patryk. Our friend told him we did not receive our appetizer. Within a few more minutes he arrived with the perogies apologizing and saying the order got mixed up. I then asked for another cup of tea, which I would have enjoyed earlier, had he approached us sooner. Our dinners arrived only minutes after we finished our app. Truthfully the food here is basic, but delicious, and fresh, and I still recommend this restaurant. The first time he waited on us, his service was extremely attentive. I'm not sure what changed between then and now. Hopefully a lesson will be learned from this review.

Spectacular! Absolutely delicious Polish food. The ambiance is warm, inviting and cozy. The food is out of this world decadent. It is hard to find authentic anything and Home Made does not disappoint. I love how proud the staff are of their establishment and culinary delicacies. As well they should be. It is a slice of Poland in Hackettstown. Their food is made with real ingredients, is packaged for delivery in tight containers, and sealed with flavorful dishes that the palate is keen to. Please go and support this local establishment. You will love every aspect of being there. The friendly and talented employees, a cozy dining area, authentic food, and supporting a local establishment.
