I visited this spot recently and found it to be pretty straightforward and welcoming. The beef cheek was really good, and I'm thinking of trying their tequila next time. It seems like the staff really cares about this place, which is refreshing. I've worked in restaurants before, so I notice these things. Overall, it was a good experience, and I plan to go back.

Wish I could’ve tried the food to give a viable review, unfortunately after waiting over an hour past our wait the hostess's terrible attitude was enough to say forget it and walk away. I would’ve appreciated more understanding rather than being screamed at for standing in the crowded bar to be seated, but hey I guess too much to ask for from this establishment. Won’t be bothering again.

Cute little spot! Smaller, tightly packed seating. We had to wait on a Monday night at 8pm for approx 10-20mins for a seat by the bar.The lamb and pork tacos were good. Their hibiscus margarita was nice and refreshing.Cozy space and fun atmosphere :)

The food is very good, it transports me directly to Mexico. I ordered a chicken broth, delicious, homemade, exquisite! Also a plate of red enchiladas, with very good flavor, quantity and quality. The horchata water is spectacular! The staff very friendly and attentive. The place has a very good atmosphere. You can listen to regional, northern Mexican music and also rock. Very good mix. The place is clean and very well decorated.I will definitely return to this site. One of the best Mexican restaurants in NJ.:)

Impossibly loud and long lines. Seriously good food and awareness in the service.

The food is amazing, as are the drinks and the atmosphere. I will love this spot, always and forever. My only critique--and it is a very small one--is I wish they still provided two tortillas with each taco like they used to do back in the day. Nonetheless, I absolutely adore Taqueria Downtown, and I will keep coming back. And while the tacos are definitely the star of the show, don't sleep on their tortilla soup, tamales, or weekend brunch.

This place is great - some very authentic great tacos. More authentic than the Americanized ones you’ll get around nyc and the area. I was in Mexico City a few months ago - this will do to hold the gap in my stomach for the delicious street tacos! Steak and carnitas tacos were awesome. Chorizo was amazing, tho it’s always my favorite.

This place is the ultimate packed dive bar. The food and drinks we had were super tasty. Bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable about Tequila. The crowd was fun to engage with. What more could you ask for.

This small venue was completely packed at lunchtime. We were seated immediately at the very last table available. The food was outstanding, but the presentation has work to do. The food was served on paper plates, which were served on top of red baskets. This isn't a huge issue, but I would imagine serving on a plate would enhance the experience. Although the portions are a little small, the price makes up for it. This also kind of allows you to try many different things as it's rather inexpensive. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the visit!

Listen, you WILL have to wait for a table. It’s a tiny little place, and everyone in Jersey City yearns for these sweet sweet tacos. Once you GET your table; welcome to the good life, friend. The food is incredible, the service is shockingly swift and efficient, and the house margarita will require you to cancel any/all early morning plans you may have the following day. It’s a perfect dining experience.

Gave me and my bf extreme food poisoning for two days. Tried calling them for a compensation and they don’t answer. Will be reporting to the dept of health.

Overpriced tacos for minimum effort. Gourmet prices for street vendor quality food. The atmosphere is that of a dive bar.
