I've been here a few times and most of those times I wasn't pleased but my last visit was better! It turns out I don't like their drinks but I enjoy the food. Came here for breakfast and it did take time for the food to come out and I get that. Their outdoor seating is nicely setup and quaint. I'll definitely come back

Best eatery in the neighborhood!! Delicious food and friendly staff!! I love going on Saturday to get my Square 1 fix! Love their work with the community and support them!! ❤️❤️

I absolutely love this gem of a place. They are only opened on Saturday for the foreseeable future because they are involved in much needed community service due to the pandemic (kudos!) To the reviewers who say that it is too pricey: First, compared to other GOOD brunch spots, no it’s not; and second, you get what you pay for. The food here is delicious and creative and in my opinion, well worth the price. You will not find your typical BEC sandwich here.

I’m not posting this review to comment on Square One‘s food or the welcoming space where you can get a delicious meal or cup of coffee on the go or in a more leisurely manner. Rest assured, the food is truly delicious, the staff is friendly, and the indoor and outdoor spaces are inviting and comfortable. No, I came here instead to commend Square One for its innovative and important work during the global pandemic. Rather than focusing on how to stay afloat or even make a profit these past many months, the owners directed their attention and skills outward, thinking about where their talents are needed. They pared down their business hours and have spent the vast majority of their time feeding those in need in Hudson County, for FREE. This is the sort of community-minded, socially responsible business that I want to support. We need more business owners like Mory and Nick, who are always thinking about how to make our community better.

Booked the venue for a small birthday party for my wife back in December (the Before Times). The menu was excellent and accommodating for her vegetarian dining needs and they were easy to communicate with for both the planning and the payment for the event.

Wonderful neighborhood place with great food (nice gluten free and vegetarian options often). I live a block away but it's worth a trip if you're not local too.

The food has always been stellar at Square 1. I'm extremely proud of the business owners for taking their community into consideration during the pandemic and joining forces with a group who is feeding the less fortunate. I cannot wait for the day where we all can resume normalcy and I can sit inside and chat with Nick and Mory.

Square 1 is a cool hip cafe with delicious sandwiches, soups, and some baked goodies. Their prices are a bit higher than the local options in Journal Square, but the quality is definitely worth it. Most of the menu is super healthy, so I always treat myself to a drink and cookie as well.

Would definitely recommend this super cute spot. I really enjoyed my brunch here. It's a bit on the pricier side but worth it for the quality of food and ingredients being used.

I was introduced to this charming, 3-year old restaurant by a new friend. She recommended The Impossible ("meat") salad, which was amazing! I have since had an Impossible Sub, cinnamon fudge brownies, and some of the BEST pancakes ever! (these are usually served on the weekends at 10 a.m.) The menu is subject to change, so check their website, or, better yet, follow them on social media. All food is fresh, made with top-notch ingredients sourced from local farms/businesses. The space is small but fun/cool/cozy, there's a backyard to hang out in during nice weather, and--best of all--community events happen here (plant swaps, art exhibits & more). Chef Mory Thomas and his staff are very welcoming too; they made me feel like one of the family. I highly recommend Square 1!

Square 1 is comfort food turned up not one notch but two. Chef Mory's creative touch adds a twist to classic flavor combinations that are interesting (and delicious) but not pretentious. That said, if you're more traditional, you won't be disappointed either. The treats baked in house are addictive (I might be drooling a little bit thinking about the chocolate chip cookies). There are options for all diets, including gluten free, keto, and vegetarian. When I'm cutting weight and need to go more low fat they have been so kind as to substitute egg whites for regular eggs, etc. as well. The owners are very much present, hands on, warm, and welcoming. They are ingrained in the community.
