I have to be honest, there aren't many good Japanese restaurants in New Jersey. I've tried so many, but this one is hands down the best Japanese restaurant in NJ, period. The restaurant is owned and operated by Japanese people, so you know it's the real deal. Although I didn't have time to visit the restaurant this time, I ordered takeout and enjoyed it in my hotel room, and it was still very good.

I find their tone and service rude - they show zero desire to be welcoming. I gave them many chances and have come in regularly for awhile - yet they stated "we are busy, no room" when there were clearly spaces at the bar. I am not going back.

Just want to know why enforce a time limit when the place is half empty. We wanted to order more food and enjoy a little more. Asked if they were closing the kitchen and the Lady manager just said "time limit." Loss of revenue and loss of customers.

Went for my first omakase sushi at Nakahara. First, small local location in the heart of Leonia. I'm told you definitely need a reservation, probably because of the length of time the meal takes with so many courses. With the omakase style the chef picks small dishes for your meal. I thought it changed from meal to meal depending on what the chef purchases for that day. At Nakahara it is a set omakase dinner, same samplings every time. The tuna appetizer was delicious. I did not enjoy the fried items. The sushi and sashimi were delicate. The diner portion ended with a beef dish that was tasty. Dessert was a choice of five very average selections. Overall it was good.

It's always my pleasure to eat Nakahara, please try their Chanpon noodles. And my favorite Omakase that you will never disappointed.

Food is great and it’s truly Japanese, comparing to other counter parties i.e. the way sashimi is cut, miso soup and small side dishes. We ordered sushi regular, Hire Katsu and spicy tuna salad. All were good. No picture for spicy tuna salad because it was so good I forgot about it ?

Tried their omakase course B and their fish definitely tastes fresh and high quality. The course consisted of a soup, 3 appetizers (although we got 4?), small steak, a variety of sushi & sashimi, and dessert of our choice. My personal faves were the monkfish appetizer, red snapper, shrimp (both the sushi and deep fried head!), and matcha tiramisu; everything was delicious though. I just wish they could've explained what each of the sushi and sashimi pieces were. Other than that, service was excellent - they were very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The restaurant itself is quite small so I'd recommend making a reservation, especially for around dinner time!

A top-notch Japanese restaurant at a higher price point than average, but then again, they offer quality, and that's why i love it so much!I am a regular and I love the family oriented staff. Their service and food reflect their amazing history and culture, and I thank them for their service and their curtesy towards me as a client.

My husband and I have been meaning to check this place out for some time now and finally decided to dine here for dinner. When you enter, it seems like any other ordinary Japanese restaurant and gives a comforting atmosphere. Once we were seated, our server was very attentive throughout the night and made our dining experience pleasing. For appetizer, we tried their ankou karaage (deep fried monk fish) and tempura appetizers. The monk fish tempura was great, but definitely very filling. Then we ordered our sushi set - my husband tried their sushi omakase and I decided to stick with the chef special sushi. We were blown away by how fresh it was and each piece tasted so good to the point they melt in your mouth! We’ve been searching for an authentic japanese sushi restaurant near our place and this is definitely A+ in our mind. Sushi Chef/owner is also Japanese so you can definitely trust his technique :)Overall, really good sushi place in our local NJ area and HIGHLY recommend if you’re looking for a good sushi restaurant nearby.
