Only been here once and I think it’s just ok, nothing really stands out or special. They’re going for an upscale vibe but the service and food quality does not match. Steamed egg is extremely bland. I also wouldn’t recommend this place for omakase. When you go for omakase you get an intimate experience with the chef and they explain everything that they bring out to you. Instead of the chef doing this in front of us, they pass it to a waiter that comes behind us at the sushi bar, interrupts my conversation, and explain everything.I think it’s a bit odd getting and omakase experience from Korean chefs, just doesn’t not feel the same. Overall, I think this place is just ok.

Been here a handful of times so far. Food has been consistently excellent. The servers are friendly and fast. Atmosphere is very chill and it’s nice to be able to bring your own bottle of alcohol if you want. This has become our special occasion spot. Definitely worth the visit.

WOW, what an amazing spot. The service is impeccable and the food is insanely good. Some of the freshest fish I’ve had outside of Japan. Every worked is so kind, helpful, and attentive and the atmosphere is chic and cool. Service is quick and again the fish is so fresh and delicious as well as the rolls and all other dishes like the bento boxes.

I had the omakse and it didn't feel like an omkase at all. Paying 150 I thought I would get piece by piece with an explanation of what it is being that I sat at the sushi bar with an almost empty restaurant. but I got 3 dishes with about 10 pieces of sushi on each plate. Felt like I got 3 sushi deluxe or something like that. Aside from that I didn't find 1 piece of sushi that made me say wow that's good. Just because you pile up high end ingredients on rice doesn't make it good. Very disappointing.

Seriously, this place is soooo good. I have been trying to find a good sushi place near Fort Lee and finally this is the one! This place is reasonably priced, service very very good. Food is amazing, everything, I cannot think of anything bad. I don’t know where the bad rating came from but I swear me and my husband raved about this place the first time we visited. We tried sashimi deluxe, fish are all very fresh. Otoro is very high quality, fat and melt in my mouth. And then the special sushi are very good. We had the wagyu and uni one. AmazingFor app we ordered grilled yellow tail collar, shrimp crunch, all very delicious!I really think this place deserves more customer, I will keep returning!

First time here and will definitely be back. Delicious fresh sushi, friendly service and sparkling clean environment. Not cheap but excellent quality was worth it (and byob helps keep price down).

I cannot believe this place only has 4.2 stars—what is wrong with you people!? I took my wife here for her birthday dinner with the goal of having a special and unique experience. If you are looking for a fun night out, look no further than the omakase experience at Shumi. It is second to none, and a great way for the chef to showcase their skill and artistry. Service was excellent and attentive. Ambiance was really cool, well-lit and chic modern with an open concept kitchen and sushi bar seating. BYOB. Prices are a little bit higher end but you 100% get what you pay for here. Like I said, look no further and book a reservation for your next special night. You won’t be disappointed.

We sat at the bar, but I left with a pounding headache due to the smoke from the flaming rolls. The ambiance was dismal with excessive bright lights illuminating the sterile white tile decor, reminiscent of an operating room. As for the food, it was a disappointment. The rice was dry and hard, the fish quality subpar, and the Otoro Sashimi Pizza bore no resemblance to actual pizza. The $29 Tuna Poke was overwhelmingly rice with minimal tuna. Additionally, they botched our order, serving everything at once after a ten-minute wait, suggesting pre-made dishes. Overall, it was a dreadful experience.

First time doing omakase and it was the best way to celebrate my wife's birthday. This is some of the best sushi we have ever had. The simple rolls or the simple pieces of fish were of supremely high quality, and the experience of omakase was extremely interesting and fun. When we went, the final course was ramen which was a great way to end the night. The service was excellent and attentive. BYOB is a plus. Ambiance is really cool as well. It wasn't cheap, but I felt like it was worth it for the experience of omakase and the incredibly high quality food. Would recommend to friends and family 100 times over!

Probably one of the best experiences my girlfriend and I went for vday weekend. The host is amazing, and the food was just incredible a truly great experience and beautiful time to spend with another, byob.

Fresh, great variety, and really fine fishes for their Omakase sushi choices. Also liked the idea to start the course with a sushi soup and end with a hot ramen. However went with the assumption that sushies would be made in front of you, which turned out were brought to you by waiters. Offering BYOW was also a nice option.

We went to Shumi with a rather large party and they accommodated us to all enjoy the omakase experience. The inside was beautifully decorated and so clean! Service was excellent despite the large party. The food was creative and flavorful, the fish was fresh, and overall excellent. Would highly recommend!

The food is always so good here! The fish is fresh, the short ribs are amazing, and the portions are great for your money! Staff is always friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is impecably clean!

I thought everything was fine. We didn't do omakase after reading reviews. I like the byob. Service was a bit slow on a Saturday night. We ordered some apps including baked oysters (don't recommend) and the crispy rice salmon (really good but tiny) Our table shared some rolls and my friend got a bento box for herself. The rolls were really good, the shumi roll particularly stood out the most. The bento box was pretty filling and it had a variety of tempura, salad, a roll, and salmon over a bed of veggies. I will come back to try more of their sushi and sashimi next time Parking is street parking, plentiful spots.
