Dai kichi is my favorite sushi place in Montclair, and there is stiff competition! Their sushi is always fresh, servers are always friendly and highly efficient, and you get a 10% discount for using cash.
I wanted to try a new spot since we always order from Nori (which we really like). Dai Kichi was disappointing- the pork buns were so hard, as if they were microwaved. They were also tiny and overpriced. The filling was tasty. Tonkatsu ramen was tasty. The hamachi roll tasted a bit flavorless, and the texture of the yellowtail was a little weird, a little squishy, almost like it wasn't fresh? The other, Panda roll was really good- the super white tuna on it was delicious. Glad we tried this spot, but it was pricy for what seemed like food that was inconsistently tasty/ fresh- so we will stick with our usual.
Great food, great staffs. I loved all the foods there, and definitely come back!
Easy curbside pickup, delicious food, great selection!
Best sushi in Montclair. One of favorite hot day salads are made here. You must try the sesame encrusted tuna salad
the best sushi in town. but montclair locals already know this. quick service, you get the correct order always
This hands-down would have rated 5 stars had it not been for the obscene prices. Not that I eat them, since they're purely for rookies, but $7.50 for a California Roll. C'mon people, be serious. I've had sushi from coast-to-coast, and not even Nobu Matsuhisa himself has the unmitigated gall to charge 8 bucks for salmon and tuna rolls, and a whopping $8.50 for a yellowtail roll. A price that made me turn as red as my maguro. On to the star of the show, the food. The rolls were delicious, perhaps the best Montclair has to offer, as well they should be at those prices. They were no bigger than your average roll, so it wasn't the size that warranted the huge price tag. The Sushi Sandwich was delicious, but at $16.50 I did my best to take tiny bites, and savor every one. Excellent sushi for sure. Did I mention the prices. They were high enough to make me wish I had a rich uncle to treat me next time. And there probably be a next time.
Having lived in Japan for several years, our go-to spot for authentic tasting Japanese cuisine in Montclair is Dai-Kichi. No question. We are fans.
This spot is my preferred one. I visit many restaurants but to this restaurant I keep coming back again and again. The stuff is very receptive and the cooking they serve is so fresh and tasty. I am always happy to have a good dinner in this place. I highly recommend this place.
Food is delicious & the service is WONDERFUL I will go back..
Such a good lunch deal. 3 rolls for 15 bucks.. and it's super super tasty and incredibly fresh. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other dishes because I was thoroughly impressed. Great local find!
Dai Kichi is a classic Montclair staple. Been coming here for years. Always very delish sushi and other apps! I love the tamago sushi, tuna Napoleon and Yankee roll. Great take out too.
Really reasonable prices and good quality. We get lunch here pretty often because you can't beat their lunch specials, but if everything goes back to normal I recommend dining in for the friendly service. They have a really fun Japanese strawberry soda that kids will like.
Wow can't believe I haven't written this review sooner!! I have been coming here for a year now and the sushi is incredible! So fresh and the atmosphere is nice whether it's for a lunch or cute dinner date. Highly recommend the Pancho V role! Any negative reviews are likely due to the prices and the wait but hey you're in Montclair... what do you expect?
