Downtown Montclair is filled with so many business that it’s easy for one to become unnoticed, this is the case with DLV Lounge. So here I find myself on a Saturday with my cousin & her friend who lives in Montclair; the bar scene is generally not my cup of tea, but what made this place special was the live jazz music. Now I’ve never been able to get into jazz, but I can always enjoy live music from almost any genre, this is the case here. It’s great to be able to go out, relax and listen to a live band, while amongst great people in a small, yet relaxing atmosphere. I seriously had a good time, while I can’t tell you about the drinks since I nominated myself to be the designated driver, I can surely tell you the drink must have been good, because these two needed a designated driver or an Uber; but with that said I do know the drinks were reasonably priced. I would revisit this spot again, as I found it to have just the right size crown; it wasn’t too crowded, however it wasn’t empty either. The only thing missing for me is it would have been nice to have some finger food, because if I were drinking I would need to lace my stomach with some light appetizers. Other than that it’s a great spot.

Had good expectations, was immediately turned off when security came over very VERY rudly and asked me if I was ordering with 5 minutes of walking in, which I was planning to spend a lot. I then didn't spend a penny and will never return, thank you

I am planning a family reunion after party and I was looking for a jazz lounge. I found DLV in a google search and it seemed like an Black establishment. Since the day was Juneteenth I figured it would be the perfect night to explore this business. I was sincerely hoping this place would become my new Friday night hangout spot since I live close and love Jazz. This was a terrible experience from the start. For starters I called ahead to find out about the dress code and entry cost. The person who answered the phone was extremely rude and seemed bothered by every question I asked. She told me no sneakers and hippies. I ignored the rude phone service and decided to go ahead with my plan to feel the place out. Keeping in mind that I have two weeks to find a venue. When I arrived at 10 PM the place was dead and it looked like the Live band was on brake. There was only one bartender and I asked her if there was a special house cocktail. She rudely told me no as if I had irritated her with my question. It then occurred to me that she was the rude person I spoke with on the phone earlier. I asked her if she can make a Bahama Mama and she replied yes. I replied that I would like that. I watched her go serve two people who she seemed to have known. She continued talking with them almost 10 minutes completely ignoring me. After 10 minutes a couple walked in and she helped them immediately. I wanted to go off but I decided to keep my composure. I calmly asked what happened to my drink and she pretended that she forgot what I ordered. I repeated my order and she walked away as if was going to make my drink. She did not make me a drink and I walked out and spent my money at Just Jake which was live and packed. It's the same dilemma, I want to support a black business but I have deal with bad attitude and bad service. The bright side of this review is that I discovered Just Jake's 30 Park St, Montclair, NJ 07042. This is the place I will bring my relatives to hangout after the family reunion.

The owner is amazing. Owned the establishment for over 50 years and the people are so welcoming and inviting. Feels like you were meant to be there on any day. And the best part is the live jazz bands
