The food wasn't good, but it also made us sick. When I arrived, they said they had a table ready and asked our party to wait 2 minutes; we waited 15. The wait staff was so poor at their job that we had to deflect the waiters' pressures to put in an order three times, we felt like we had just sat down. They filled the kung pao chicken with some sort of filler to make dish look fuller - most of it was NOT chicken, and frankly, I'd rather have a smaller dish. The chefs also used too much chili oil - all of our food - from the kung pao chicken to the lo mein to the pork belly - was all doused in chili oil. The same night, numerous members of my party were asking each other whether we had also gotten sick from the food. I'll never go back here frankly.

If you are black, avoid this place, unless you want to watch everyone that comes after you gets served first. And when your food finally comes to your table, it's iced cold. That was my experience. There was no mistake. It was blatant racism. It was extremely humiliating. I walked out after waiting one hour and 45 minutes for cold food to come to my table.I've just read another review from a black lady who had the same experience. If you have a problem with black people frequenting your establishment, don't open a restaurant in Montclair. Montclair is diverse.

Love the place! My daughter is so in love with their roast duck. Always pack more pickles to go.

First time eating at Jiang Nan was a not a great experience. We came on a Friday night. Parking was impossible and had to drive around finally found a parking spot 6 blocks away on the street. We had a reservation for 7 and were promptly seated. I noticed a table behind us was also reserved for a party of 12 people, but they had not arrived. Ordered the pineapple non- alcoholic ale and was delighted when the server brought it out and smoked the ale in front of us. That was pretty cool. Ordered the chicken roles, beef lo mein, large mouth bass in a large casserole (chonqing) and whole roast Peking duck. Food was tasty, especially the Chonqing style fish in casserole but the roast Peking duck at that price was carved inside the kitchen and where was the rest of the duck? More half portion than whole duck. I asked the waiter if this was the half duck duck or whole, he got offended and said obviously it's the whole enchilada. And when food all started coming out and we were starting to enjoy our meal, everyone showed up at the 12 person table behind us. They brought in probably a case of wine bottles. The party started! Except that they became so LOUD we could barely have our own dining conversation and the rest of the meal were so unpleasant, we quickly ate and paid the check to get out of there.

Service was a little bit on and off, had to flag people over to get more water and service. Food itself was actually quite good, pretty authentic according to the Chinese folks I was sitting down and eating with. The food can be spicy, so make sure you're prepared for that. Half a Peking duck was excellent, and the steam fish Chongqing style people liked (if you like spicy). I would skip the fried milk dessert as I've had better elsewhere.

More upscale version of a Chinese restaurant, sit-down and inside is dark and spacious room. The service was quick to get us seated (though there's a machine upfront to put yourself on a waitlist as it does get busier the later you go towards busy time). Water and tea brought out in reasonably quick time (though refilling later required constantly asking them). A change of plates mid-meal would've been helpful with the spicy dishes. They brought out some lightly preserved cabbage with spicy oil - this was good, could use more of it. Peking duck was good - thin sheets, all the accruements, and on a nice bamboo tray. It's misspelled on the receipt as "Pecking Duck"...funny. Good 1/2 duck and not quite enough of the thin sheet wraps, but the table liked it and the sweet bean sauce. Came with cucumber, scallions, potatoes, salt and sauce. The Home Style Crispy Fish I liked, but the people who grew up in China said it was just lacking some sweetness. Braised beef brisket with potato mild spicy ended up being too spicy for the kids at the table, they didn't like it, and I ended up eating it - the chewy brisket was good, but a bit spicy still even with mild spicy. Served on top of a single candle to keep it sizzling warm in the center. The potatoes we ended up putting into the next dish. Grilled Fish Striped Bass - Chongqing Style, with the set (mushrooms, potatoes, lotus root and seaweed added) - very authentic taste, which I wasn't as much a fan of but the table of adults across from me really enjoyed the green peppercorns and spices (medium spicy). Giant serving spoon. Boneless version with flounder filet is cheaper than the one with bones. Deep fried Japanese tofu w/ mixed seafood was a hit with the kids - they bring it on a hot plate and pour the sauce to sizzle on top of the egg tofu. Stir-fried sting bean w/ minced meat was ok, salty, though tiny tongs to serve with. All of those dishes.. and apparently bowls of rice not included. Three bowls of white rice, $1.50 each. Deep fried milk was so-so for me, they didn't have any condensed milk or sugar syrup to dip in, just plain fried milk corn starch sticks. Overall, dishes were pretty authentic, and the folks that grew up with these in China liked them. As an American-style palate, I found it spicier than expected. I did like the non-spicy dishes. Will have to try more next time.

It’s a chain store, the peking duck are pre-roasted so don’t expect you will get fresh roast duck, it’s on a pricy side. When you spend $30 or more you will get a soup dumplings for free (4 crab/meat soup dumplings) one time deal for me, i wouldn’t visit again, the food is not

So I’m putting my review here as well. Normally I don’t do reviews as I don’t want to be responsible for destroying someone business.. but this restaurant just won’t know how to treat certain type of”customers”.I ordered via grubhub the other night. Now I ordered the beef lo mein and the pineapple chicken wings. Now this item must be popular and it’s part of their winter menu and I know this bc I had dinner there that previous week. Anyway the chicken was removed and I was refunded however bc I really wanted that item I wanted to cancel the order. So I attempted to do so while the order was just being made. I must have been doing this for 30 mins when I decided to call the restaurant and let them know to see if they can cancel, the woman put me on hold to speak to her manager, comes back on the phone and tells me that she can’t cancel and I need to call grubhub. At that point, I say ok and hang up. A few minutes later of trying to reach grubhub, I decided to call the restaurant again, but they blocked me. Then I cal the driver and he says he tried to pick up the order, but he was told he was cancelled. Now keep in mind they told me they couldn’t cancel the order, so why not give the driver the order if you unable to cancel on your end. I had to walk to the restaurant to speak to them and show them that I couldn’t get anyone and finally I was able to chat with grubhub to get the order canceled. Between grubhub and this place, I’m not coming here again. They barely wanted to speak to me when I walked there. Now I won’t bore you with my first experience. They made the wrong food…

Really do recommend:- The tea service. Even if you are not normally a tea drinker, GET IT. Their tea is so good - I wish I knew where they get it but I guess I'll just have to come back.- The Kimchi Rice- Honey Walnut ShrimpA lot of menu items you won't find at other neighborhood restaurants that I can't wait to try... will be back.Only negative was that the diced chicken was far too salty.

Wow! One of the best Chinese food in NJ. All these dishes are very flavorful with the original flavor of the cuisine to its unique taste. The origin of the dish is spicy and this restaurant makes it right and freshly made. The pickle cabbage is very delicious and crispy. The chili is definitely spicy but so good. Will update my post when I come next time for the Beijing roast duck, Lobster and crab ? dishes.

I went to this restaurant because they had soup dumplings but that wasn’t the right decision. The soup dumplings are so tiny and soup inside is not tasty. It was ok. I would not want to come back. In one order they only give 4 dumplings and those are tiny ones. The service is not good. The staff was on the phone. The noodles were tasty. They could do better with good quantity.
