Steak completely burnt. Small scoop of rice and beans were thrown in the bag like it didn't even matter. What happened to this place

I was referred by a nurse colleague that work with me. I ordered the red snapper fried with steam potatoes , vegetables, burrito. I was enjoying the fish until I saw that the fish head was not cleaned properly ,the fish gill was fried I was disgusted. Other than that. The food was hot and prepared properly.

Cazuela de Mariscos: Not bad but a little wateryBandeja Paisa: The chicharrón is massive, though most of it is too hard or fatty to eat. The meaty part is good.I noticed this place fills up later at night, so I think it's authentic, or at least one of the preferred spots among hispanic locals after work.

We ordered the Beef Burrito and Chicken with Plantains. Burrito was stuffed with rice, little cheese, barely any meat - no sauce (given little containers of 'something that was to go with burrito), no flavor. Chicken consisted of dried out fried pieces (one thigh, two legs), fried sliced plantains - again absolutely no flavor, no spices, no sauce other than the tiny containers of 'something'. Each dish was $10 (despite menu marked $9.50 for chicken). The chicken came with something that looked like cole slaw. The Burrito came with 2 TBS of chopped tomato & onion 'salad'. Woman who took order spoke no English. I would gladly pay $10 for a meal that resembled or tasted even close to 'Mexican' seriously needs help here. Not recommended!
I can remember coming to El Portal for over 30 years now. I think it's so cool to bring my kids there now that I'm the adult, we loved the food, just as I remember

Delicious all around. Freshly made. Service was good but may need to use your Google translate. Menu has pictures and is both in English and Spanish. We had tacos, fried fish with plantains and fries, and chorizo. Definitely recommend
