A hidden gem in the city of Newark with great food . Family owned and worth it . Some times there's a lil wait for your food but I swear its definitely worth it .

I admire this restaurant! They offer first-cleass food, they have a nice menu, The cook in that spot is a professional, I like a lot trying all their dishes. The dishes are consistently tasty, the attitude towards the customers is efficient. I visit often this restaurant and I not even once was disappointed. I recommend it with no hesitation.

Great soul food family restaurant. Welcoming , great ambiance good music . If you in the Roseville section of Newark it's a must visit. Mrs. Sharon greets you with a smile and says good evening with a hug. Support our community eateries. My first visit I had fried shrimp fried cabbage mac and cheese with home.made corn bread. My second visit was one week later for $1.00 crabs which is on Fridays while in season. All was good and I plan to go back until I have tried everything on the menu. Mrs. Sharon if you see this I'm going to need that log in to your play list on Pandora.. Sheronda

This is truly a hidden gem. If your looking for the finest flavor in New Jersey this is the place. The service is phenomenal the music is very relaxing basically after a long day of stress and work this is the place that will give you relief.

The ambience captured me as soon as I walked in the door. It has a laidback Jazzy Vibe. The staff is very attentive and the food was 4.75 Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ And that's only because I'm a connoisseur of potato salad that doesn't include dill. The collard greens, cabbage,, cornbread, rib eye steak, which I was able to cut with a fork, and sweet potatoes are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent!!! From the catfish to the whiting and the fried pork chops, macaroni & cheese and the uptown, you will not be disappointed. The prices are excellent!!!!! Looking forward to experiencing their entire menu with my family and friends!!

so i tried this place over the weekend and... eh. i was underwhelmed. i was in the mood for soul food and i came across this restaurant on yelp so based on the review i decided to give it a try. i placed my order for pick up through yelp/grubhub. i was given an estimated time of 45 minutes. it would take me a good 20 minutes to drive there so i agreed. i arrive and it's a cute little spot. parking in the area is terrible. especially on a sunday since there is a church nearby so the patrons take up most of the street parking. i walk inside and there is a few tables spaced throughout and there was a young man behind the counter who greeted me when i got there. i told him i was there to pick up an order and he handed me a bag, that was sitting on the counter. not in the window under a warmer or anything. just on the counter. so i had a feeling my food would be cold. when i got in the car i looked at it and touched it and of course it was cold. i didn't make a big deal about it because it would be cold by the time i made it home anyway. so i was just hopeful that the food would be good. i ordered beef ribs, mac and cheese, and collard greens. literally everything had a smoky taste. EVERYTHING. i understood the ribs being smoky. but the mac and cheese??? and i judge all soul food places by their sides. the greens could have been cut a little better. it was just super big leaves which took up a lot of the space in the container. the mac and cheese lacked some flavor other than the smokiness and it definitely lacked cheese. the cornbread was super cold. as though it was never warm from the beginning. the ribs, although large in size and tender were just so so. overall i wouldn't try it again.

Food was ok. Most of what we wanted to order they were out of (catfish, collards, turkey wings). It seemed as though we got whatever was left over before they closed. The Mac and cheese didn't have enough cheese and didn't taste fresh. The candied yams looked old like the yams you see when the pan is almost empty. The pieces of cornbread we received were sad. We even ordered extra pieces!! They should be ashamed they charged us for them and even put them in our bag. I might give them one more try. Hopefully my experience is much better.

This is the best soul food spot out. The food is AMAZING... like extremely amazing. After you leave, you will dream about it, tell people about it, crave it. I've been here 3 times and every time it just got better and better. I know who ever the chef is be stressed out on the holidays because I bet every person who knows him be tryna go to his house. Get the cabbage, get the oxtails, get the greens, get the Mac & Cheese, get the chicken, get the yams.. This place deserves 3 Michelin stars, an Oscar, and it's own holiday... it's that good!

Called and ordered take out 45m before they closed on Saturday and I was very happy. Many places are unhappy to serve you when you call that close to closing but they were very pleasant on the phone and when I arrived. Super super service very nice. We ordered dinner portions of the fried shrimp and the fried chicken, both came with two sides and a piece of cornbread. We both got mac and cheese and candied yams. I always judge a soul food spot by the first bite of corn bread which DID NOT DISAPPOINT. the food was sooooo delicious, big portions and reasonably priced. The iced tea was very good too. Please for yourself a favor and stop by. The interior is also very nice and intimate for a sit down dinner. 100% recommend.

Good golly! What a find. Made our way from the burbs to this little gem and was not disappointed. Chicken and waffles was so huge and so good. The full rack of ribs was like something out of the flint stones. And I cannot say enough about the owners. So friendly and welcoming We will come back...though it may be six months before I'm hungry again

Pretty place and fantastic owner. But the mac and cheese could have been cheesier. And I didn't really like the gravy on the beef ribs. Other than that, it's a place to go. Black owned businesses should always be supported.
