Dietary restrictions: This was our first time visiting, not our last.Def make reservations! It was busy at 5:30p and only stayed busy during our stay.We started with oysters and octopus. The octopus was charred to perfection. No chewy pieces. Then we shared the grilled snapper, it came with string beans, red onions and tomato. Everything was perfectly cooked! I highly recommend it all.Everything I saw coming out looked amazing.Juan David was our waiter - thank you for the amazing service and being extra patient as it was our first time. He was kind, super attentive and all his recommendations were spot on!!Varka - we will be back!

I've been coming here for years with family, friends and colleagues. Tonight, I ordered their Tuna Aegean, absolutely delicious and so fresh. I have it before and I'm never disappointed, and I'm going to order this again for sure. I also ordered the Greek Salad, and that too is extremely delicious and fresh. One of my favorites is also SEAFOOD NICOISE, Grilled vegetables with scallops, shrimp, tuna and olives, Love it. Great place and close to home.

Excellent place - food, service, and atmosphere. Only "negative" is that some prices are on the edge of silly. Ramsey is not Manhattan.
The food here is consistently outstanding - yes, it is pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The fish is fresh, the food is well presented and the appetizers are enough to feel 3 people, so perfect for sharing; desserts are also large Moreover, the service is outstanding. And the Greek cookies on the tray at the reception desk to enjoy on the way home are a real treat! Highly recommend.

Varka is as good now as it was maybe 20 years ago when we first started going there. Consistency is what we look for and that's what you get. Expensive yes, but what is cheap today? Service is always good.

Food was excellent, we were seated immediately. Dining area is large and open, tables are adequately spaced for privacy. Wait staff was attentive and professional. Expensive; but isn't everything lately? Will certainly return.
Disappointment
This should have been a 5 star review. Made a lunch reservation for 3:00PM through Open Table. The 3:00pm time was the last lunch reservation offered. We arrived promptly at 3:00pm and were given a warm greeting by the hostess. We looked at the menu and saw that it was the dinner menu and asked the waiter for the lunch menu. He said that the lunch was over and it was the dinner menu. We questioned this and he seemed annoyed and said he would see what he could do. We did get lunch menus and ordered, The food was outstanding, the bus staff were friendly and polite. Unfortunately, our waiter did not live up the same standard. He was abrupt and annoyed that we did not order alcohol or dessert. So here is the real issue that people need to be aware of. We had a Varka gift card. In NJ, a merchant can charge a fee if the patron is using a Credit Card or a Debit Card, as along as they have a sign displaying their policy to charge the fee that they pay to the card company. It's the law. Understood. However, we got the check and there were two amounts shown for the final amount. The cash amount and the charge amount. Varka charged the Credit card amount (+3.50%) over the cash amount. The the difference in the amount was minor (a few dollars). Except, Varka had taken $100.00 in cash from our friend and redeemed it as if they had a "processing fee" from a credit card company. It was their gift card, no processing fee. So beware if you are using a gift card.

Varka seemed “off” tonight. First, I was REALLY disappointed that they don't serve the Seafood Niçoise Salad at dinner! It's perfection. Instead, I ordered the halibut w/ beets & red potatoes...it was bland and it was expensive. Albeit, it was cooked perfectly, there was just no flavor. My husband ordered the pork chop w/ lemon potatoes — again, bland, boiled potatoes. Chop was perfectly cooked but another side would've been more satisfying for the price. We shared the Greek Tomato Salad, which was delicious. We waited a very long time to receive our entrees...which was kind of crazy for a Tuesday night at 6/630? The bar is very lively so it's best to sit farther back if available. There's also a crazy charge for credit card fees, as if it's not expensive enough already, and it's very confusing on the bill, so make sure you have the server explain it to you — if even THEY understand it! Again, Varka does better — for me — at lunch. Won't be back for dinner unless it's on someone else's expense account!
