I have been to this restaurant numerous times and it's always been very good. This time was not. First they couldn't find my reservation, which meant I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes to be seated. The food was very slow to come out. When our main meal finally arrived, it was luke warm. When I mentioned this to the manager who had no explanation. She was very apologetic and nice though. I can't say that I will be heading back that way for quite a while.

Absolutely the worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in a longgg time. Plenty of servers for the amount of guests in the restaurants. There were 3 patrons at the bar. As well as 2 tables in the dining room. We were COMPLETELY IGNORED for more than 15 minutes after being seated. We tried to be patient but a newer server blatantly stated she had no other tables as she looked right at us. Rude doesn’t begin to cover it. We won’t be back.

So we have never been to a German restaurant before and I loved it. The beer ? was so good and the food was out of this world. Got busy towards the night and the servers were all so friendly. The bartenders were also so very friendly and helped out with beer to order. I would definitely go back.

The Netcong Senior Citizen Club thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon luncheon in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The menu was perfect and servings plentiful. The corned beef, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes were perfectly prepared…the meat tender and vegetables a perfect crispness, not in the least overcooked. Our dessert choice of Black Forest cake or their homemade apple strudel topped off a perfect meal! Kudos to the chef. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, catering to our every request. Thank you Barbara for a delicious and wonderful experience.

My first time here was at the Chester game assoc “Game Dinner” and had a great experience. Due to high attendance, facilities were very tight and cramped, but the service was great as was the food. They created two buffets of appetizers and later entrees. I cannot speak to their traditional menu, but this special display was delicious. The chef prepared the variety of unusual proteins to perfection. The accompanying sauces, reductions, etc were fantastic. Great job to the staff here, would like to return to taste the traditional menu.

Authentic German American atmosphere and theming. Food is good, not great. The classics are very tasty as are the desserts. Pricing is a bit high but service is excellent. They really try here and it shows. I am, however, a bit shocked they do not really have a massive meat platter.

Wonderful German restaurant! For appetizers we got potato pancakes, potato leek soup, and mushroom ravioli. The potato pancakes were so crunchy and flavorful. I enjoyed it with sour cream. My sister and partners enjoyed it with applesauce and my mom enjoyed it with both. The potato leek soup was so creamy and rich. The mushroom ravioli was so delicious and has this wonderful sauce. My mom got regular veal schnitzel and really enjoyed it. My sister got the pork schnitzel and loved it. My dad got a fish and he was so impressed by the flavor of it. I got the jagerschnitzel and it was amazing. The sauce was so creamy and flavorful of mushrooms. My partner got the prime rib and it was so tender and each bite was filled with flavor in a delicious sauce as well. My parents and partner got beers and they finished them all and really enjoyed a good German beer! I got a cocktail that had elderberry syrup, champagne, lime, soda water. It was delicious especially as you finish the glass more flavor emerged. For dessert we order a Black Forest cake for my mom’s birthday and everyone loved it! Service was great, food was delicious. I would highly go back again.Parking: Lots of parking but limited handicap spotsWheelchair accessibility: They have a wheelchair elevator but have to wait for staff to operate it. I was on crutches and used it.

Since 1977, three generations of the Aichem family have worked at this establishment over the decades. Black Forest Inn, located in Stanhope, is a diamond in the rough, as it’s far and few for German cuisine in New Jersey. Upon arrival, its beautiful old-world stonework and rustic wood décor welcomed us for dinner as first-timers, which a number of our friends had recommended. Reservations were easily made through Yelp. Upon entering, it felt like I was back in Bavaria with the warm, German-themed vibe featuring eye-catching outdoor paintings, lively beer steins lining the walls, and stained glass hunting scenes. Warmly welcomed by the host and owner, Barbara, my partner and I were seated promptly in one of the multi-dining rooms. Our server, Melissa, dressed in authentic Dirndls clothing as we made small talk. The German and European fusion menus with excellent farm-to-table include seasonal favorites, extensive daily specialties with on- and off-premise catering, and takeouts. As appetizers, we decided on the potato pancakes with apple sauce and sour cream as well as the pretzel sticks with the house-made beer cheese sauce. For our main meal, we opted for the Traditional Wienerschnitzel (thin, breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet) Black Forest accompanied with Spätzle (egg noodles) and Red Cabbage, as well as Chicken Breast Jager with Wine Mushroom Cream Sauce served with Spätzle and Carrots. Complimentary bread with butter started our meal, which we downed with Radler (half beer and half lemon soda). The finest and freshest ingredients are presented with simple elegance to every meal. From appetizers to the main courses, the food was beyond expectations. The portions were huge, and we guaranteed you would not leave hungry. Prices were not outrageous. The atmosphere, the service, and the food make this restaurant worth the 40-minute drive, which we can recommend.
