So on the recommendation of a coworker I tried this place out since it was Friday sushi was a good choice for lunch. I ordered a spider roll (soft shell crab in tempura). For lunch seems like the one person handle it well but could of use more help getting orders. Place is nothing great to look at but was very clean. Now the food it was super fresh it was freshly fried that was still a little warm still when I ate it. Loved it was only 6 pieces if I knew it was small but good I would of ordered two rolls guess next time. Great susbi.

I will never order from this place ever again. We ordered take out for dinner. When we received the order, the avocado in two of our rolls were bad, had brown and black spots all over. When we called, the lady on the phone told us to just eat it and call her back. We told her no and we asked to send a picture. We sent her a picture to prove that the avocado was bad and she finally refunded us for part of our order. She did not offer to remake our order until I mentioned that this was our dinner. Also not worth the price. We ordered 3 rolls that came to $38. 2 special rolls and 1 regular roll. The portions were so small it looked like 3 regular rolls.

We had take out from Ichiban yesterday and it was awesome. Three of us had 6 rolls and enjoyed every one of them. The fish was fresh, the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the rice well seasoned. The fresh wasabi didnt taste much different , but was new to us. thanks for a great working lunch!

I hate leaving bad reviews. I really do. However, I just spent $18 on an avocado roll, a green house salad, and a Edamame hikjiki a salad. All were listed as half the price I was charged on the website. I was also charged an additional dollar for using a card. OK. Fine. I understand. The price of everything is up. But when I get into my car and my sesame salad is made out of ice, it is upsetting. The receipt says "no refund" so I just wanted to call them and let them know so it doesn't happen to future customers. I called and told him that my salad was made out of ice and the woman told me to "wait 10 minutes to and I will be OK." I'm sorry lol what? I paid nearly $20 for a brown avocado roll and a frozen salad. Next time I will drive to the other side of the plaza and go to ShopRite. Really disappointing. I work in the industry and I would've absolutely told the customer to come in and get a new salad or a refund. Really bummed.

Not open Mondays. We have had sushi from Ichiban, the fish is always fresh and the rolls are not too filled with rice. If raw fish is not your liking, they also serve noodles and cooked items.

Very simple order with the bento box and a California roll on the side. The lady on the phone was friendly and courteous. I arrived to pick up and the food early and only waited about 20 mins in total. Checkout process was quick and easy. The food was really bad. The sushi looked and tasted like it had been out all day as well as the bento box. I genuinely think I got a rejected order from way earlier in the day. It tasted terrible and I did not finish it.Will never order from there again.

I came in and ordered a salmon avocado roll and a steak hibachi. Not only was I never asked how I’d like my steak, but they over cooked my steak. The sushi also was subpar. They packaged my soup in a tea cup and put it into a paper bag…. The soup spilled everywhere. Disappointed is an understatement.

Woman behind the counter was so incredibly rude. She kept cutting me off as I was asking questions about the lunch specials and literally tossed my card at me after charging me. She was annoyed that I decided to dine in and tried to say I had ordered for takeout not dine in- which just wasn't true. The sushi did not taste fresh either but the miso soup was really good. Definitely not coming back here.

Always a great option when looking for sushi in the area. Reliable and decent prices. Lunch special is good. Good menu with lots of choices

I first discovered Ichiban years ago when they offered a wonderful 50% off deal on sushi, which made me an almost weekly customer. Sadly, Covid and inflation have caused that deal to go away, but even so the food is still very good, and the prices are in-line with the other sushi restaurants in the area. The restaurant does look a little threadbare though these days and could use an update. Also, while their menu is sufficiently diverse, they don't offer any daily or seasonal specials that might make things a bit more exciting. That said, I really enjoyed my meal tonight. The staff and chef remember their regular customers and treat them well. When I came in, I was welcomed warmly and greeted by name, even though I haven't been there in at least six months. To start, I had a simple green salad with the ubiquitous ginger-carrot dressing that can be found at virtually every Japanese restaurant in the country. The greens were crisp and fresh, and it was a nice way to start the meal. What came next was both unexpected and quite delicious. I was presented with a complementary appetizer from the chef that's not on the menu. It was strips of fish tempura (some kind of white fish) that was drizzled with eel sauce and spicy mayo and topped with masago. For my main course I chose a double portion of their California Earthquake appetizer, which is essentially a California Roll that's been coated in tempura batter and deep fried. It's served with the same eel sauce and spicy mayo drizzle that was on the complimentary appetizer. This is a dish I've been ordering for a long time, and truth be told, it was what I came to Ichiban for this evening. I'm normally not much of a sushi roll guy. I prefer traditional nigiri sushi, but I'm a s***** for this roll. The combination of the hot crispy coating, the creamy avocado, the crunchy cucumber and delicate kani, along with the spicy/sweet sauce is borderline addictive. I can't really recommend Ichiban as a "destination" restaurant, but if you live or work nearby, or even if you just haven't been to Ichiban in a while, it is definitely worth checking out.

A bargain sushi shop in West Caldwell, NJ. We have been coming here for many many years. Food is always good. They have many different dishes to choose from, it works with my vegan daughter in law too. They also have great many inventive rolls. The do a lot of take outs but staying at the counter and order by piece is a lot of fun too. It is a BYOB establishment.
