This is your standard family Mexican restaurant. Food is usually pretty good and the sopapillas are great.

Our food clearly sat in the pickup window for 15 or 20 min. You could tell by the crusty dried beans (pictured). Taquitos, dry and tasteless, Barbacoa tacos, dry and also very little meat for $18. POSITIVES - Saucy rice, but tasted good, the refried beans were good also. Chile was good and spicy. Nice atmosphere, good service, clean.

There is a lot of Mexican food in Albuquerque, but few that stand up to the quality of El Patron. I have been to the Montgomery Road locations multiple times through the last 10-12 years, back to the early days when Nick Kapnison and Jimmy Daskalos opened it. They raised the bar on this cuisine, and have maintained it.With an exterior that is reminiscent of a mission, guests instantly feel like they have been whisked away to a different time and place. Interior decor and furnishings exude cultural sensibilities. My buddy and I sat in the bar and both opted for burritos. I went with the Vegetarian (minus the cheese), with Christmas on top. He chose the Carne Adovada Burrito, a favorite of his at El Patron. It was tough sledding there for a while, but we both managed to clean our plates (we were raised well).Although I did not order anything from the bar this time, I have in years past. I am impressed that, unlike most Mexican restaurants that serve only Mexican imports and a handful of US majors, they also have a nice selection of local craft brews. This is a nice touch for those who prefer more exotic beers. Two thumbs up! I look forward to returning again and again.Vegetarian options: It’s easy to eat vegetarian or vegan at a Mexican place, mostly because menu items are so adaptable. No worries here!

Such a unique, pretty restaurant inside and out. The food was great and the prices even better. I was impressed with the free chips and salsa and sopas at the end of our meal. The only down side was that we weren't served by one person, but did get checked in with by multiple people. The waiters seemed a bit disorganized and a little chaotic.
