Looking for Mexican food and got lucky to find this place. First the servings are very generous. Second the food is Spicy and delicious I ordered the asado plate and the meat was tender and mouthwatering. Third the prices were reasonable with outdoor seating. Definitely going back for more.
We didn't really know where to go, having stayed on the outskirts of Carlsbad...We lucked into La Patrona because of the generous opening hours and were wowed! On our first visit I really didn't know what to expect; I knew I wanted tacos and that's about it. I asked "what's barbacoa" lol and the nice kid at the counter patiently tried to explain. Enjoyable roadside haunt. I really enjoyed my Huevos Divorciados at La Patrona. Yes, I know it was lunch, but hey it was super good. I had asked for "Christmas" and got a nice amount of red and green chili on my food. I shared a "steak" taco from one of the family and used a tiny packet of "red sauce" to enhance the flavor. Boy, that red chili sauce was ear steaming hot! The heat didn't mask the flavor of the meat or the avocado in the taco... but I know where they got the inspiration...read full review
