This is the place where they beat up patrons and then throw them into the street. Regardless of what they claim, it’s a fact that someone died there at the hands of a bouncer. Reason enough for me to stay away.

Ale house don’t care about hospitality. They only care about numbers (dead bodies included) I went to the bar and they made a mistake on my order.‘I ordered a double whisky and they gave me water with a lemon. I tired to correct them but they weren’t receptive. I asked for a manager and she called a bouncer to kick me out.I didn’t argue or exchange words. I asked the bartender and the bouncer to take sip of my drink. But they both reluctant. They stole my money, but I couldn’t argue with guys who have a license to kill and have killed their own clients. The best I can do is warn everyone else.They are bad people, you can have a good time at the bar. But the employees are horrible and the manager is strung out on coke. I could right a book on that bar but I’ll leave it at that

Very expensive but it's the only pub I like that's open past 2 a.m. There's bands on the weekend s, karaoke. It's usually packed, but it is loud with the music so it's hard to have a conversation. It can be hard to get a drink on busy nights, but staff is nice. All ages I've seen here from 19 to 60+. It's not a fancy place, so come dressed up or casual....but too dressed up and you'll stick out. It gets rowdy after 12, but that's what I like!

People are constantly having fights in there. The bartenders do nothing about it. They over serve. The bathrooms are filthy.It would be a cool place if it seemed like they cared at all about it being a safe environment. I was catching up with a friend that was visiting. from out of town in the upstairs area and a scuffle broke up beside our table and they fell on my friend and no one did anything about it and me and my friend ended up leaving to hang out somewhere else. This awhile ago but it's still kind of ridiculous to think about.

Just no. It's unhygienic (mouse capital of the south end), has terrible staff (specifically the bouncers they continue to defend who murdered a young man on Christmas eve 2022), and it's just generally not worth it - there are better bars in Halifax. It's historic (in architecture) and that's the only thing it's got going for it.

my experience, vicariously through others, has been horrible, this bar is facing criminal charges in relation to a manslaughter in which they allegedly facilitated.
Wings were pretty good but half way through our meal there was a mouse running around. Actually came right up to our table. We brought it to the attention of our server who's only response was "yeah, there's nothing we can do about them. We set traps but they keep coming back"Needless to say, we were disgusted and pretty much left right away.No thanks to going back ever

This place is excellent if you feel like dealing with bouncers who do not respect you and will physically abuse you at the drop of a hat. Don't go here if you value your life as there's a legitimate chance that the bouncers will kill you.Everyone who has been in Halifax for a few years knows at least one person who has been physically abused by an Alehouse bouncer. They're seemingly the only establishment in this city with that reputation. Don't go here.

The servers are absolute garbage. Get angry if you order more. They don’t care about customers, and the bouncers have something against every single male out there, hence why someone got injured to the point of death awhile back. This place will be shut down soon, just wait. It’s the Halifax dive .

Briana was an outstanding server. I was having a few very tasteful drinks and she served everything in very timely manner. She offered refills and food. This is an excellent establishment for food and drink specials. Ask the staff if they know it used to be a fire department ; )

Place is crawling with rodents. Was there and hour and seen 10. Waitress thought it was funny and named him garth . (Yes it’s downtown halifax but get a black box lol ) Food was awful. Spinch dip was green garlic powder soup. Nachos cold and drinks were NOT doubles . Make sure you tip regardless of all of this or the waiter will make a scene . —10/10 do not recommend.
