Johnny's snack bar, probably as old as the hills and yet I've never been. Luckily just the other day I happened to be in the neighborhood so I stopped in for lunch. Great patina! Only booths and stools at the counter, I love it. I ordered the hot hamburger which I noticed as a special though a dollar or more than what I saw on online but it included clam chowder so that was a pleasant surprise.I'll admit I enjoyed the clam chowder even if the broth was a little gelatinous and the clams tasted a little canny. I looked forward to the roll but it didn't seem fresh and the butter was hard. The hot hamburger was interesting. The fries were fresh and hot. The sandwich was ample and the coleslaw was smooth and creamy. The gravy was fine if a little bland which was enhanced with salt and pepper on everything. The scoop of vegetables on the side was typical as are those that have been sitting, in hot water for too long. There was a particular flavor in that hamburger and I can't quite put my finger on it. I wanted to ask my server as I was genuinely curious. You get your pop in a can and it was perfectly chilled and served with a little glass for sipping. The service is excellent. Sitting in a booth, looking out the big window in front was nice. The vibe was excellent, welcoming, comforting, homey. I enjoyed hanging out after I finished my meal and I was left to pay at the counter on my way out. Good times.

Old school diner. He's behind the stove, she's running the dining room. Worn banquettes, photos and kitsch adorns the wall. (is it kitsch if its not curated?)I only discovered this place a few months ago ("How did you not know about this place? We've been open 45 years! ??) and have probably been at least once a month. Delicious, affordable food; my dad and I each got a pop, I got the cheeseburger deluxe with fries and my old man got the chicken noodle soup and chicken salad sandwich. All in pre tip it was under $29.00Favourite spot in the North End!

feels very 2000s diner owned by a random dude who is very nice but won’t interrupt you a bunch to ask if it’s all good (which is great in my opinion!). super reasonably priced and good food, not anything gourmet but just classic timeless stuff. can’t ever go wrong with a cheeseburger, milkshake, and friesKid-friendliness: Staff are so friendly with kids! Lots of food that young kids would like too.Wheelchair accessibility: Stairs at entrance, narrow aisles between seats, nowhere to place wheelchair to transfer into seat and no tables that allow a wheelchair to fit in.

A bit crowded, but I guess that's a win for them! Food is really well priced, service is quick. Been here 3 times now and it's been consistent everytime. Real home style feel.

Service and food always very good and reasonably priced. Great service as usual, bit of a wait for our breakfast orders but when everything is cooked fresh that well worth the wait !

Fish and chips were some of the best I've had. Super convenient to grab a bite if your kid is practicing hockey at the Forum. They are located just across the street!

We love Johnny’s. It’s a family run restaurant that makes you feel like you’re part of the family. Food is great, like my mom’s home cooked meals.
