As the sole gay bar remaining in Reno, it is still pretty ok. Mike is a great bartender. Lots of theme nights. Dean A is the patriarch at the bar and seems to be the appointed greeter making everyone feel welcome.

Great place, great atmosphere. But Momo the bartender is the highlight. She’s awesome and we totally enjoyed our night because of her. Totally will be back to see her. Great drinks, great vibe, and great service.
Can’t say enough about how MoMo, she made us feel welcome and was great at conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Carls.

I was at Carl's a little over 20 years ago & it was a whooping good time then. Then I've not been there once in that 20 years and it sure has changed. Back then it had that gay 'edge' (before pronouns changed and gay men were allowed to have a space). The friendliness quotient has dropped *significantly* and now it's all clique-y. I didn't have the same comfort level I did back then. Except when I found one or two guys from back then and we jokingly reminisced about the good ole days. And some "they" was *very* obviously attracted to me but didn't get the hint it wasn't reciprocal. "They" even pulled "their" phone & started taking unwelcomed pics of me on "their" phone. Up to the point I just put my hand up over my face so "they" couldn't get pics anymore. I felt that was very intrusive and rude and purposely clueless. But where the hell else to go when you're a bear who likes bears. Online I guess.

Went in for a drink and was rudely told by the bartender that he decided to close early, roughly 90 minutes before the posted business hours. I don’t understand how a place can operate like this and stay in business. Never going here again.

Carl's is the classic old-school gay bar in the heart of Reno. And it is perfect just the way it is.When I go to a gay bar I want a nice bar to sit at, strong cocktails, and a nice atmosphere. What do I mean by a nice atmosphere - well, I mean that it's not so loud that you can talk with the people you are with and that it's interesting and fun. There's lots to look at as the bar has been there for years. There's video gambling at the bar which I think just makes it feel like Nevada. The bartender was super nice. And there's a dart board and a pool table...which I love having a pool table.My partner and I had a super time!
I am astonished by this place... I could go into deep depth on how much I enjoyed this place, but it would take me all day! First, the dancers are very kind and generous. These are some of the best looking males I have ever seen. Such beautiful men here! The dancers have kind souls that shine as they perform. I was very impressed when my favorite dancer got up onto that pole. Let's just say... I was aroused. Second, the bartenders are very polite and have such a way with words. I am docking off one star because they weren't quite wheel chair accessible for my friend. Overall, great place for an exotic night out.
