The service at this place used to be amazing a year or two ago, I even remember our server being so welcoming and nice. We recently went back with friends and family and the owner + wait staff were really rude to us- it almost felt like we were bothering them when we asked what the sides were or basic questions about when we should go up to order. The owner specifically told us “it’ll come out the way it comes out” when we asked how the fish/seafood is prepared. The food is still really good, but if you want good food, with a staff who treats you with even the slightest bit of dignity, I’d go to Hamido instead. Such a shame, this place was such a gem :/

Should be your go to for Egyptian style seafood. The whole staff was super attentive and welcoming. You will have your try their Egyptian bread that comes with the salads and dips. Was super hot and fresh. The herring dip was the best I’ve ever had. Got the fried calamari, grilled shrimps and sengari style cooked fish. All were mind blowing. The calamari was super crispy on the outside and very delicious. Highly recommend

What a fun experience and the food was fabulous! I ordered the baba ghanoush, which came with the best pita I’ve ever had. I didn’t see any menus, so you should ask the staff to guide you for a selection or read reviews before you go! I luckily had seen the tagine recommended, so I got the tagine with calamari and shrimp. Definitely a portion for two or more! I went as a solo diner and it was much too filling for just me. I would definitely recommend this as a place to go with a group, so you can order a few different things to share. The tagine came bubbling in a clay pot, and was very intensely flavored! Weirdly, I almost liked the vegetables more than the seafood! The shrimp seemed a little over cooked, but I think that’s the nature of this dish with shrimp. I would love to try again with a fish that could handle more intense heat. The tagine came with this wonderful onion rice that was a great pair. The meal came out to about $60 (with bottled water), which again would be a better situation for two! Next time, I’d love to try a whole fish and the fried calamari! Highly recommend making the trip to Astoria—it was walkable from the N and then walkable to the Museum of the Moving Image.

I went to Abuqir on a Friday evening with a couple of friends. The place itself is quite small and very casual. We were seated immediately and then picked our seafood shortly after. The food was delicious and reasonable priced for seafood, although I wouldn’t suggest getting the octopus if you want to spend a more reasonable amount, as a singular piece cost $30. The scallops (grilled) and calamari (fried) were delicious, as were the sides (house salad with tons of fresh dill, babaghanoush and pita). I would come here again with a fellow seafood loving friend to try some of their fish.Parking: Crowded area and very difficult to find parking - it took us about 15-20 minutes and we parked a 10 min walk away.

Amazing little middle eastern seafood place. Food is amazing but owner has a weird demeanor. The place is too dirty and small which is idiotic.

My boyfriend and I went for dinner and the staff was very friendly. We got there 30mins before we broke fast and the staff made sure the food came out just in time. Fish was excellent. Oh! and they gave us 2 dates each . Thank you!

10’s across the board!! Family-friendly vibe for sure. My sister, my toddler and I dined here and we were greeted at the door by a gentleman of the restaurant who helped us bring in our stroller as it was cold and rainy outside! He was also quick to help us find an area to park the stroller as we sat and ate. The seafood is all fresh. You select which item you want and how you want it cooked. We had grilled shrimp, fried shrimp and calamari, the eggplant, the baba ganoush, scallops and the salad! Everything was all so good! Definitely worth more visits :-) Gave 4 stars for the atmosphere because the place is small, but it’s NY so hey!
