Pretty - very pretty pastries. The atmosphere of the shop is old school - nice, warm, also - pretty.SADLY of my three pastries -one was inedible. It was a lovely flaky chocolate almond croissant. Oh how I was looking forward to it. BUT - it tasted like chemicals. I wondered if somehow I had gotten a sugarfree stevia or something. like poison (sorry!) There is definitely an old-world charm to La Guli Bakery, located on Ditmars Blvd. in Astoria. This old Italian family-owned business, whose granddaughter now runs the establishment, has been in the same building for decades. If you are looking for a traditional Italian pastry experience, this has been my go-to since my childhood. They used to be the best bakery, hands down. Working with Maria at La Guli was such a distinct pleasure. She is a genuinely kind-hearted and caring business owner and knows her baked goods as they are beyond delicious. Wish we lived in the neighborhood so we could come more often.We hired her to do our wedding cake, a traditional Italian layered cake, and cannoli.
