Good diner food in an old-style diner atmosphere. Curiously the diner is cantilevered over the stream! Great breakfast. Presume other food is equivalent (looked good on other customer's plates).Couple of stairs up to get in.

The food was really good homestyle food with large portions. Or issue was the cook was on his/her second day of working there and even though the place was basically empty, it took at least 45+ minutes to get our food. It will certainly be worth another visit once the cook has been there a while.

Classic diner, delicious food, great milkshakes, wonderful staff!

Friendly service every time I come here. It's a diner so expect the usual diner menu items. I recommend the Ruben or grilled ham and cheese with a side of poutine.Parking: On street parking.

We love diners, but classic ones are hard to find, especially ones with good food and accessible hours. Hunter's Dinerant (combo of "diner" and "restaurant") has been around since the actual 1950s - in fact, my in-laws used to go on dates there. The restaurant was founded by the father of President Biden's first wife, Neilia Hunter (who was tragically killed in a car accident). The diner is an actual rail car that was brought in to balance over an Auburn stream. There is a large jukebox plus jukeboxes on every table - I haven't seen those in forever! We visited on a summer Sunday afternoon around 12:30 pm - surprisingly, there were only a few other patrons. Our server was friendly and attentive. The menu is large and what you'd expect from diner fare, with very reasonable prices given today's inflation. Everything we ordered was excellent! If we lived closer, this would be a frequent stop; even being an hour away, we definitely hope to be back. If you are around Auburn and crave comforting diner food in a classic diner atmosphere, be sure to stop at Hunter's Dinerant!

Always friendly and portion sizes are good value for money.. they are always kind and accommodating to my grandchildren. Good place to take kids.

Food was good, 5 star mostly.Service from main waitress was pretty good but not enough to overcome the other issues. The other person who tried to help us was very strange and caused a big scene and made us uncomfortable. Also the location is very old, things are clearly old and that makes them appear dirty and/or they are actually dirty from decades of use. The ventilation inside is not great and the air conditioning situation was also quite unacceptable. The bathrooms were very clean and well kept. I did like that. The place needs a makeover and the employee who caused a huge scene for us will probably make it so I don't return.

Take this as constructed criticism. Avoid this place until they get there act together. Very unprofessional and a bit over priced and overrated of a diner in Auburn. This business was a gem back in the day now its a dive. I was waited by a waitress that was very unprofessional. I asked for a root beer float and on arrival she decided it was best to put the first scoop in my drink that made a huge mess all over the table. Now on to the food... I ordered the house hamburger well done which came on soggy buns falling apart greasy not homemade smh. The fries were the only good part of the meal. The waitress was acting a bit odd the whole time never decided to give me a paper bill tab total. I had to walk to the register to ring up total bill?? This place is sketchy unreal.. Anyway as a good customer I still tipped fair but will never come back here until things change. Time to call Gordon Ramsey on this joint lol. Please improve if possible!

Ridiculously sketchy experience here. Got lunch with my partner, we got the wrong drink, but didn't complain because we're not complainers. The gravy on the hot Turkey was so salty it really wasn't enjoyable. The worst part of this experience was when it came to paying the bill. The waitress told us to meet her at the register, it felt rushed, we never got a check, so we rushed to finish our drinks to meet her at the register, she told us the check was for $38 and change, I asked her to make change out of a $20 so I could give her a $10 tip, because I'm a good tipper. I gave her $40 for the meal, expecting a dollar and change back seeing we were in front of a cash register, but she neither rang the bill in, nor opened the register to make change. She just handed me a $1 bill out of her apron for change. Super sketchy. When I got to my car, it struck me that in the fuss of all the change-making and not seeing the bill, there's no way this meal (two $9.95 meals and 2 iced teas) were $39. I didn't go in because we were running late to something, and then after I called to ask about it, the waitress immediately knew who I was, and first confirmed it was $39, then tried to say it was $32, then told me it was $27, and to come back the next day to get my money back, so I did and she gave me a $10 bill, not the $12 I was owed. Mind you, she got almost a 40% tip with the tip I originally gave her. It felt incredibly shady and intentionally deceptive. I hope this restaurant learns to act with integrity because I can't imagine they'll have any customers left if this is how they treat people.

Man. I’ve always loved diner food. Some places should stay closed, I suppose. The soda tasted like cleaner, the food was questionable quality at best, and the restaurant was absolutely filthy on a Wednesday morning. My silverware looked like it hadn’t even been cleaned, and pieces of the wall were falling off in our booth. Hopefully this was just a freak thing considering most of the reviews here are good. But I’m kinda thinking it’s just nostalgia that people like to go for.

I have gone by the Hunter Dinerant dozens of times for the past 3 years, wanting to try it out, but not finding the opportunity. Finally got to go, for breakfast with my 3 grandkids last Sunday. It was everything I hoped it would be! Service was phenomenal and friendly. Food was excellent, and well priced for the huge portions. So glad we went! Will definitely be back!

Huge portions of awesome homemade food. Amazing prices, great view and location, and an old-timey diner feel. Can't wait to go back

Recommended at hotel as best place for breakfast in Auburn. Food was very good, was served quickly for being busy. Staff was friendly too. Our "go to" when in Auburn.
