“When you travel, you seek to find outstanding restaurants. Sometimes you win, other times, you don't. The Hudson House is a great find, a winner at every turn! From our initial greeting by the owner, Matt, to the great staff who didn't miss a beat, to the most critical part, the food, there wasn't a moment of regret. We started with a couple of tables shares. We had cheese plate with 3 cheeses, homemade fig jam to die for, fresh thinly sliced honeycrisp apples, delicious grapes, and an oil-infused crustini. Perfect start, followed by the burrata and pumpkin seed salad with carmelized pears and sweet potato chunks. I didn't think it could get better after this. I tried the sweet potato and fennel soup, very warm and hearty on a cold night, and the taste was just as I hoped! A beet and farro salad with radishes hit the mark! My partner had a fresh halibut that was cooked to perfection, served on ramen noodles and baby bok choy, with an array of fresh mushrooms, with a gentle but flavorful broth, but not enough to be called soup. To me, one of the best fish dishes I've tasted in a long time. Our guests, the wedding couple, ordered duck breast confit, and hanger steak. The duck, one of her favorites, was tender, most, cooked properly and seasoned well. It was a hit with her and her mother. The hanger steak was the choice of the groom, a very picky eater. He couldn't stop reaching about how amazing it was! Sadly, we were so full, we couldn't eat dessert. All the desserts are homemade by the owner, and they sounded unbelievable. But I'll have to return another time to speak to them. Finally, ask to sit in the jail cell. The pictures tell only some of the story. It's a wine cellar, a hidden romantic getaway, a reprise of days long gone. Or have a seat at the bar with the locals. Or just come and see the beautiful tin ceiling and walls. Tonin and all employees were wonderful, kind, easy to work with and responded quickly and clearly to all questions pertaining to our large event. Also took forever to get our drinks, and food was brought out by the kitchen staff so besides taking the order and refilling water I don’t really know what his purpose was. Great bar area, lots of TVs (with the NFL package), and a growing selection of cheaper domestics and still-affordable craft beers and cocktails. The dining room is smaller but that's because there is a large pool table (takes dollars), a professional grade shuffleboard table and four dart boards with great lighting and score machines. Plus the newly expanded outdoor seating with private areas and fans...even a big outdoor TV in the lounge area. It's pretty great and the staff is very sweet and professional.Kid-friendliness: It's a time of day thing, it is a bar after all, but our kid loves being in the dining room with all the screens and people playing the games. You can have a delicious meal a la carte or the tasting menu. I could not convince my husband to do the 15 course chef's tasting menu. But we did do the tasting menu with wine. Every dish was light, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. We enjoyed the wine pairings which were different (portuguese and spanish wines rounded out some American and South African wines). She really enjoyed her caramel latte, as did I with my black coffee. Both variants of the French toast were amazing, and the additional toppings really added something interesting to the mix without being overpowering. We opted to get the maple syrup which is an extra $3 each, but it's well worth it. My friend loved her eggs and home fries as well, and only brought some home because she was too full to finish it all. My short rib and egg tacos were phenomenal and we're the perfect blend of breakfast and lunch influences. I absolutely loved it.Customer service here was amazing. The diner was very clean and the staff was accommodating and quick. We never had to look for a staff member when we needed something. I would definitely recommend anyone check them out.
