Eat early to avoid crowd and eat on the deck looking out over the water. The service was acceptable if a little rushed. The fish and chips was very good. The "famous lobster roll" was a little exaggerated. Pricey with less lobster than the price promised. The new England clam chowder was good but lite on the clams. Hope this helps.

Disgusting. Discriminated against a blind person with a guide dog. My blind wife and I tried to take a visitor from Australia to dinner, obviously wanting seats with a view for our guest. The restaurant advertises its views. They were very empty with maybe 2 or 3 tables taken near the windows and plenty of space. The wife has a 100% legitimate guide (service) dog. He's been all over the world with no problem. The hostess said we could sit by the windows but she had to check first with the manager. He came over and said no, we could not sit by the windows near other patrons but we could sit near the entrance (way far from the windows, in a corner, with zero view.) The manager said patrons might be afraid of dogs and the dog was a tripping hazard (the dog curls up completely out of the way and UNDER the table). This is completely ILLEGAL. You cannot discriminate against a blind person with a legitimate service animal. We protested but he would not relent. The manager said he let us in the restaurant (as if we should be grateful) but they did not have to seat us where we wanted. When he saw me start to record the conversation, he lied and said the tables had reservations. So how come the hostess didn't know about the reservations? I didn't want to spoil the mood for everyone so I didn't call the police. We left. This was our first and for sure our last visit to Lobster Box. The manager's behavior was nauseating. Sammy's Fish Box next door was extremely welcoming, with big smiles, and the food was excellent.

Servers are excellent, the food is not good. Lobster roll is worst I ever tasted, Restaurant has a diner look & feel, needs a make over & the menu is boring. Great location, restaurant need better management to be successful. Food is not Fresh & low quality ingredients. Staff were amazing!!

Went there this weekend. The shrimp was over cooked and hard. My fish didn’t rate right as if it was not fresh. Should’ve sent it back but I don’t like doing that. The food was VERY expensive and therefore we would expect the food to be top notch. Also, the restaurant was not very clean. Hygiene is important. Will not go here again. I do not recommend this place.

Absolutely the worst lobster roll we have ever seen or tasted. Actually the lobster meat had no taste, the celery was limp and weeks old and there was more mayonnaise than anything. On top of that it led to two cases of food poisoning!! Not a pleasant way to end the afternoon. I can say the server was very nice, but that is the only nice thing I can say. Sorry as I hate posting bad reviews, but never again.

I came here on a double date on a Saturday night. They had a big parking lot which came in handy. We went straight to the back of the restaurant and you can see the water which is beautiful. The food was fantastic especially their soft bread rolls. The service was so good and they were attentive. The atmosphere was nice and they had some land options which came in handy. I am not a seafood person but I love the atmosphere of City Island. Prices are decent and I would definitely return. However, the booths were really close together and the tables were small. That is the only reason they didnt get five stars.

The service started out great, but went downhill rapidly. The real problem is the food. The steamed lobster was obviously pre-overcooked and looked like it had been sitting on a shelf for 12 hours. I've had rubber bands that were easier to chew. Also, they don't have an alcohol-free margarita. Since most people that come to this place drive, alcohol-free cocktails seems like a no-brainer. I waited 30 minutes after the table was cleared to be asked if I wanted anything else. Dessert "menu" consists of 2 kinds of cake and apple pie. It's summer here on City Island and it's 90 degrees outside. No ice cream, no sherbet, no sorbet. Seems like another no-brainer to me. Apple pie was hard as a rock. Cross this one off your list.

Ordered broiled whole lobster ($59). Was over done. The smaller tail end was dry, middle was chewy and the top of the tail was not bad. If the head chef doesn't come in till dinner time, could they at least teach the cover to know when seafood is done? Hint, if the lobster is swimming in butter it will take longer to brown. My guess is that chef was going for the appearance and not doneness which ruined it. The lobster (Maine supposedly) was fairly tastless. I buy/make lobster myself so I know good/well prepared lobster. Clams oreganato were acceptable. The octopus app was very good. Waiter was very pleasant.

A friend and I went for lunch yesterday and were so glad we did! Hadn't been to City Island since before the pandemic. Lobster Box sounded good and it was! We had Clams Casino, Crab Cakes and a lobster roll. All were top notch! We had several delicious drinks. And the service was delightful. Very attentive and polite. Oh! And great apple pie a la mode for dessert! Atmosphere is excellent. Lots of windows that overlook the water. And otherwise low lighting that always makes for the nicest environment. I'm looking at the bad reviews. Of course ones where the reviewer has only one (or no) other reviews are always suspicious. I'd also say that in starting to read some of them, they say suggest greater problems with the authors than the restaurant. Just sayin....

My dining experience has always been top notch and have been frequenting this establishment for at least 20 years. The food is always excellent and the staff is always cheerful and accommodating. Our companies have had functions there the food was great. Our favorite waiter George is always on the ball. You got to experience it.

The food was great! I have no complain on the food. The thing for me was the service. The waiters give you the holiday menu, during the holidays, as if it’s the only menu they have. What if I didn’t want was on that menu? We asked for the regular menu, and they gave it to us because the manager got involved. The servers were okay, not friendly but alright. The managers have it in control but the waiters and hostess think they own the place. We got the check, and they added a $47 tip to the receipt without telling us and imposing we also gave them an extra tip. The waiters claim that it’s the holiday tip, when I didn’t agree to a holiday tip, and no where does it stipulate that it’s included in the check. But I repeat, the food was amazing, prices are higher but that’s just how it is. READ YOUR RECEIPTS PEOPLE! Don’t be fooled

administration attention, the manager's daughter cannot be in charge of seating or assigning tables to clients. she is totally a mess. A group of 6 people waited more than an hour, however more than 6 groups that arrived after us were served first. I asked him why if the tables in the middle were empty they would not assign them. she replied that the place never occupies the middle tables in front of the bar. It is a very strange way of doing business. Why let go a group of people who are obviously going to consume only for because you don't want ro occupying approximately 6 tables. Or is it that she wanted them for someone of her preference? after the long wait we never sat down and we had to leave the place Since the children, especially one of them who is diabetic, was crying from hunger. They totally ruined the special day that we had already prepared to spend with the family, we are very disappointed. we are very angry with this the young woman and the administration of the place. the young woman is very arrogant and incompetent..... to the owner: i you don't want to loose your business take this girl out.
