I've been coming to Maya for some years now. My favorite thing to grab frequently is the chicken ginger soup. Every time I go back home and eat it, I always regret not buying two, haha. My first time trying congee was here and so I don't have anything to compare it to but it was delicious and flavorful. My husband loves the sandwiches, and I also shop ingredients to cook with in their little asian market.

Great place to grab hot congee and drinks for a picnic in Herbert von King Park. Also, awesome selection of cooking stuff, ramen, spices, tea, Chinese sauces. Boba tea is a big plus! They have hot and cold drinks, and rice bowls, including breakfast bowls. Vegan, vegetarian, and meat options.

My first time having congee and I was super excited. I was very hungry when I ordered it and when I was able to sit down and enjoy it it really hit the spot. It was warm, delicious and filling.

I don’t think they have a kitchen. Pretty tasteless sandwich. Lots of bread. Had to toss the bottom half- soggy. Not a traditional bahn mi by any stretch.

I've been coming here for years, and while sometimes the food is delicious, the quality is wildly inconsistent. I've come here too many times and have received hard, stale bread for my sandwich. At nearly 10 dollars for a breakfast sandwich with only one egg (and considering the inexpensive cost of bread in general), this is bit outlandish.

Ordered the chicken bahn mi and it wasn’t good. The top bread was super stale and the bottom was soggy. The chicken was well seasoned but idk it just was not good we had to throw it out. It was kinda disappointing ?

Very Americanized, hipster tasting congee. Congee lacks flavor so you’re given a ton of protein to make up for it. Weird that there’s broccoli in everything.

Very dirty and messy place. It’s like they stopped trying. Unfriendly staff. If you’re trying to get authentic Vietnamese Banh Mi this is not the place. Their “Banh mi” are miles away from actual Banh mi. It’s more like a sub with random ingredients. Disappointing, misleading and who puts broccoli in Banh mi’s?

this used to be a staple for me when i worked in the area, but thankfully sometimes i still get to drop by when visiting friends who live in the neighborhood or am picking up random facebook marketplace finds :)i've had various sandwiches and congee, which have been solid overall (though, as some reviewers have mentioned, be aware that the congee might deviate a little from the norm).however, i think my real favorite items on maya's menu are their drinks. i always make sure to order a milk tea, both hot or cold - on this most recent visit, i tried the chai honey milk tea. sooo good. i highly recommend that whatever you get, you order it with a refreshing, lightly sweetened drink that still somehow feels healthy and clean.

Fabulous Congee and Banh Mi.....and a great variety of quality products - Australian chai! They also kept my waterbottle for 2 weeks after I left it there, and I found it there yesterday! so kind!

I don't leave reviews often, but over the past few months the quality of the food has been wildly inconsistent at the Gates Ave location. Some days would serve congee at the perfect consistency and level of flavor, but most it would be watery and tasteless (I even took a covid test to confirm!). Ordering here is a dice roll on whether you get good food or service--never both. This place could be a hit, so I hope something changes very soon.

There's something exhausting and all too familiar about oatmeal, and when you come for Maya Congee, that tiredness gets wiped away by the by quality and format of various porridge on the menu. With soft egg, kimchis and broccoli salad, stewed pork and espresso drinks, there's no shortage of touchpoints throughout your breakfast order, even if none of these things are typically ordered in your household, albeit at all. Can't recommend more strongly for those mornings when strength and stability are sought before the chores of the day begin.

I have mixed feelings about the Braised Chicken Congee here. On the one hand, the flavor was good and authentic (traditional congee) tasting. It was also quite hearty, with a generous amount of chicken. On the other hand, it was not your traditional congee. The congee was thicker than usual, and was a mixture of rice and quinoa! I didn't really mind the quinoa - it made the dish healthier - it's just not what you would expect in congee. Now that I know what to expect, I might come back here again, but not if I were craving traditional congee. The service was good and it had a good mix of Asian grocery items.

Very kind staff that helped me figure out what to order based off my preferences. Cool outdoor seating installation but that's the only seating I saw, so something to keep in mind if you want an indoor option. The Congee was solid. Perfect warm meal for a drizzly day. I'd say my only request would be a bit more meat, and more love on the veggies, it seemed like the pork was the only part that was seasoned significantly. All the components together made for a good bite though.Black Sesame latte was also good and not too heavy on ice, something I always appreciate.
