The food was pretty good, but expensive. It's all locally sourced farm to table options, so if that's something you value then this is a great spot. I kinda wanted something for breakfast/brunch so I thought about getting the eggs, bacon, and biscuits with gravy, but I wasn't about to spend $20 on one egg with some bacon and biscuits with gravy, it didn't sound very filling. The braised short rib grilled cheese was good, and I'd get that again just because I know the amount of effort that goes into braising short ribs so it's not just something I could make better at home, but my wife's burger was okay at best, the fries were much soggier than she typically enjoys, and the dessert options were disappointing.I tried a few of the dessert options, the peach upside down cake was okay, but the sorbet it came with was much better. The cheesecake was kinda bland and gritty, it might have been a ricotta cheesecake which I normally enjoy but it didn't really have a great taste or texture to it. I thought the apple pie might be good, though I don't understand the cheddar ice cream at all... It tastes like cheddar, if you've ever thought "This apple pie could really use some cheddar cheese flavoring" then I guess this is the dessert for you, I have never had this thought. I also don't really like apple pies that use sliced apples, I like pies with large chunks of apple so I get more apple flavor to the pie.We ended up driving home wishing we had gone to a diner instead. It would have cost half as much money, there would be more drink options than "cranberry juice or water" and spending $100 at a dinner for two people we'd have enough food for a week. Instead we left feeling hungry and wanting to eat someplace else.Edited to add: I would prefer a restaurant that starts with mediocre Costco ingredients and makes an amazing meal to a restaurant that takes amazing farm to table ingredients and makes a mediocre meal.If you want a good farm to table for the money go to ABC Kitchen in Union Square, their apple pie doesn't come with cheddar cheese.Vegetarian options: They have quite a number of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu.Dietary restrictions: The menu is clearly labeled with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options.Parking: Street parking only but it's not so bad finding a spot this far down on 3rd avenue since there's just nothing else around.

Excellent fresh food, high quality ingredients, and great service. Portions are small though. $30 for half a chicken (with no side)

My review is based on our most recent visit. We have been to Beets and Carrots a couple of times before (and enjoyed our food and experience), but not in the last year. We were excited to come back with a friend. To make it clear, the reason for my 2 star review is the insanely inflated prices on the price fixe menu. I'll explain in detail for context below, but my recommendation would be to avoid this menu. They offered this as pick 3 dishes (one appetizer, one entree and one desert) and pay $75. I selected beets and pumpkin as my app, Charred broccoli from the entree choices, and apple pie from the dessert choices. The appetizer was very tasty and decent sized for a starter. The broccoli was literally one sliced crown and stem, with parmesan, lemon and granola. Small portion for a main course, and the stem was not peeled back, so the texture was very tough and stringy. I ended up not eating that part. The apple pie was standard sized (same size as my husband's pumpkin pie slice, which he ordered a-la carte from the regular dessert menu), and was quite tart.We frankly didn't think too deeply about it while there, preferring to just have fun with our friend. But upon reflection, we were confused why I paid $75 for my meal. The average cost of an appetizer on the standard dinner menu is about $16, and a slice of pie from their regular dessert menu is $12. That means I paid $47 for a slice of broccoli, part of which was too chewy to swallow.I called back the next day, to express my confusion and ask why the price fixe menu was so much money. The woman who answered was nice and asked the chef on our behalf, stating that he sets the price. She relayed back to me that the $75 cost is because there are limited time items on the price fixe menu they don't offer on the standard menu, and the portions are also larger. FYI, the pie was indeed available on the standard menu, and the portions were definitely not larger than anything on the standard menu, as my husband and friend's meals reflected. She did say she was sorry we overpaid, but there was no offer of any way to make it up to us (maybe a credit for an appetizer or something to bring us back?). I don't feel satisfied with the explanation, and it's made me not want to go back.I do believe in supporting local businesses, but would just advise you not order from the price fixe menu if you go.

I went here to eat with my mom and sister, the quality of food is amazing and everything tastes fresh. It did take quite a while for the food to arrive but I’m guessing it was because of the high quality. This place is quite expensive compared to others but the atmosphere is good and so is the food. They also don’t offer sodas so be wary if your not ok with that.Kid-friendliness: They have a large selection of coloring books and crayons for children.

This is BY FAR my wife and my favorite restaurant in Bay Ridge— I can't believe we are lucky enough to have it in this neighborhood. We go for special occasions— birthday, anniversary, promotion, etc. The ingredients are sourced locally from an Amish farm named Dutch Meadows in nearby PA, so you know you are always getting the highest quality food. Everything is put together by the highly skilled chef, who you can see working meticulously on each dish in the back. The food is served on pretty china, giving you the feeling of eating with your grandma's best plates. It's BYOB so bring your favorite bottle of wine to pair with what will be one of the best meals you will have. The atmosphere is quaint and lovely, with pleasant jazz music playing in the background. Love this place!

The food is always amazing. Like some of the best food I've ever had. A reason this place survives for so long so quietly. The menu changes seasonally. BYOB with a liquor store next door that stays open late. It's usually a one person wait staff and a small kitchen staff so I have had less than excellent service and food not coming out with great timing. But the majority of the time. The decor is plain but intimate. Downside the bathroom is in the kitchen. Not so private.

My friend brought me here tonight. The waiter was really friendly, and the food was good. The black bread smelled really nice and went well with the butter and jelly. We got the spinach pasta and cocoa casarecce with lamb. The spinach one was a bit salty but otherwise really good, the casarecce taste like a vegetarian dish in a good way, not the usual taste expected in a pasta dish. Everything tasted fresh. One thing that bothered me was that I (female) was the one who paid with the credit card, but when the waiter brought back the check, he automatically put the check in front of my friend (male) and that made me a bit upset.

Russian borscht (the vegan one) was really good. The staff were very friendly. The place itself is nice, too. Will definitely come back to try some other things on the menu.

Lovely place, delicious food. Undiscovered gem!My wife and I went here for brunch. They offer an incredible menu with a wide diversity of choices, Food was fantastic. Staff was very friendly. The decor is charming but low-key. Felt very homey. Not too busy -- yet -- so I would try this place before the word gets out. We're local, but for people visiting Bay Ridge, the cafe is only about 3 blocks from the 95th Street subway stop on the R train.Highly recommend it!

They forgot to mention they changed their duck breast to duck terrain. Was a waste of money and time. It was cold and stiff and looks just like cat food. Horrible experience no one bothered to tell me it wasn’t duck breast with no menu change.

Beets and Carrots serves great food and it’s truly a hidden gem tucked away in Bay Ridge. Probably your best option in Bay Ridge if you don’t want Italian or Middle Eastern food.I’ve been several times (dinner & lunch) and the one constant that remains is the wait time for food. The kitchen is small and it’s literally 2 guys in the back cooking for an entire restaurant of guests. The only bathroom in the restaurant is through the kitchen so you’re walking through the gauntlet as the two chefs are cooking. It’s impressive how extensive their menu is considering the size of the kitchen and what they’re able to achieve in it. Beets and Carrots would thrive in another commercial location that can accommodate their business and extensive menu. While the food is tasty, be prepared to wait a while for your food.
