A flavor fest packed with robust dashi broth, juicy beef, and caramelized scallions that bring a delicate sweetness. The beef? Clearly marinated in sweet soya or mirin, it announces its presence from the first bite. And the broth - oh, the broth! It's not just good, it's a symphony of taste that's pure, sophisticated, and oh-so-savory. Picture savoring this hot, aromatic udon, with succulent slices of beef, while bracing a crisp 36°F weather. Pure bliss! Despite your doors being closed, your flavors left such an impression that they still deserve a rave review.

We called in advance to make sure we wanted the outdoor seating but when we arrived the restaurant the staff said it’s not available for us to get the seat. We asked twice to make sure to move us to outdoor seating if there’s vacant seats but ended up eating indoor that night and never got the chance to be moved outside. The udon is quite good and delicious, but the fried tofu my friend had in the bowl was overly seasoned and it’s ridiculously sour. So we notified the staff and they made another bowl for us and treated us a piece of cake, which is tasty!

Saw this on yelp a while ago and finally decided to give it a try and I rly liked it here, no regrets. Staffs were very friendly and attentive, ambiance were nice and calming, they put a tiny candle on the table; perfect for a date (; We got the kamoten seiro udon and it was soooo delicious wow. If I had the stomach for it, honestly I would've gotten another one. The tori no karaage came in 5 pieces, taste met my expectations idk bout the portion tho.. We also got the curry udon- yum. Overall, we enjoyed my experience here, would definitely come again~

Hanon was a bit underwhelming in the food department or maybe my expectations were too high for it. The aesthetic of the food and restaurant are super pretty and zen. However the food was average, nothing that wow me or would make me come back. They have lots of udon dishes, but the udon wasn't super chewy or elastic, texture was lacking. The soup flavor was decent but came out on the cooler side and I am a fan of hot soup so that you can appreciate all the flavors. If your in the area, you can check it out but i don't think it's worth the trip if you live far.

I thought this place was cute and the food was totally Instagrammable but I felt the restaurant was kinda small and the tables were cramped too close together. A friend took me here for my bday and it was very shocking that it was all mid 20's Asian females as the clientele, I would say at least 80%. Overall, I liked the place but I felt it was pricey for what it was, it was 2 apps, 2 entrees and a beer plus tip was over $110. Also, I can't be the only person who thought it was a Viet restaurant lol The food: Spicy Soy Karaage- Japanese fried chicken tossed in a spicy soy sauce. I thought this was really good. It was fried well, it was juicy and it was flavorful. I wouldn't exactly call it spicy to be honest but it was good none the less. Washugyu Menchi Katsu- Washugyu Japanese breaded and deep-fried ground meat patty. I thought this was fried perfectly, super crunchy and not oily at all but I felt this one came off rather bland even after adding the salt, mustard and tonkatsu sauce. Tantan Udon Garlic- Chopped braised pork and spicy sesame enriched soup with a soft boiled egg. This was really good, the depth of flavor in the broth was great, I really enjoyed the pork pieces and the noodles had a great texture. This was my fav thing I had that day. I really appreciated how they knew we were sharing and split the portion into two bowls for us so we didn't have to split it ourselves. Kamoten Seiro- Shrimp, fish and three vegetables tempura with sliced duck in hot dipping sauce. This was the main reason we went to this restaurant and honestly it was kinda a let down. The noodles were nice and chewy but I didn't feel the dip in the broth added much flavor. The duck wasn't really that exciting to be honest, it was kinda a lifeless flabby piece of duck. In terms of the tempura, the shrimp was easily the star of the show, the shrimp was excellent, followed by the pumpkin, then the fish then the eggplant. I actually had major issues with the eggplant because my fingers were covered in grease when I used my fingers to pickup the eggplant, it was so freakin oily. I did love how visually appealing the two different udons looked.

I really wanted to like this place, but it was a little underwhelming. the ambiance is really nice, and I was able to get a reservation a week before dining which was convenient. I ordered the kako seiro noodles, which is sliced duck breast in hot dipping sauce. i got half regular noodles and half of the green noodles (made from bamboo leaf and barley baby leaf powder), and for house made noodles I expected them to be more chewy. The dipping sauce was very salty, but the flavor was good. The duck was also cooked well. The chicken karaage appetizer (spicy soy flavor) was coated with sauce and not super crispy, didn't really live up to the hype. overall, decent noodles but im going to stick with raku

Good place for udon if you're in Brooklyn and want an udon fix. We came in with a reservation but there were no seating so we were seated outside... overall took a while to get seated to also order our food. However the waitress gave us some hot sake since it was very cold outside. We had the uni ikura tart sushi, steamed egg (not the omelette, but I forgot the name of this one), and karaage for the appetizer portion. The egg and the karaage was not that memorable for me but the uni ikura sushi was really fresh. However you only get one big piece and I feel like it's not really to share amongst three people or even 2. I would probably get my own next time and just skip the karaage and the egg. The steamed egg dish tasted like something I could make at home as well as the other people in my party. It was still good but not as special for me. The karaage was really fried which isn't really to my taste. Now onto the udon, I had the niku udon and my party had the nabeyaki and the raw duck one. The udon was really flavorful and had a great texture. I still prefer raku over this place but I would definitely try their cold seiro udon in the summer when I can since Their hot udon didn't blow my mind other than the extremely large udon portion. If I was seated inside, I would have ordered that one. The other people in my party enjoyed theirs, but for the niku udon alone I would say is not as good as the others unless you want a lot of meat, and only cooked meat. For the price I feel like you are paying for good quality ingredients and a large portion on the udon end, but for some reason didn't satisfy me completely at the end. The tent outside at night bothered me a little along with how cold it was after some time since the table was lined with plastic which is supposed to be good for the staff to clean up after us but I still would love to have more of a dinner experience with an actual table set for the amount you pay in this restaurant.

We'd heard such fabulous things about Hanon that we had to try it for ourselves! The food was delicious - personally I loved the chicken karaage (spicy soy), the tofu, and the curry udon I was more mixed on the gyudon bowl and the dipping udon personally because I felt like the flavors were a little light (although this could be personal preference!) One challenge was that the food took a very long time to come out - the kitchen may have had some issues but we got seated around 1:30 and didn't eat most of our food until closer to 2:45. So just a heads up - come hungry but not starving! It may be a bit of a wait

Severely underrated, but highly deserving!!! Quality (food), service, aesthetic, and location (literally 10 foot steps away from the L/G lines) were unbeatable. Dined on a Saturday evening, with reservations. Seated right away upon arrival, unlike disorderly restaurants where you'd have to wait before being seated regardless of a reservation. Server did not push or interrupt to take our order. Instead, the server WAITED for us, took our order, and answered our questions thereafter. Ordered the tan tan udon and tempura seiro (not pictured). Tan tan udon was tasteful, savory, and not as heavy & spicy as it appears. Weather was cold, so the broth hit the spot. Highly recommend. Indoor aesthetic was cozy, clean, and zen. There are outdoor igloo seatings. Overall, I would come here again. Total dining time was 120 min and did not feel the pressure (from the server) to quickly wrap up and leave.

Another place I'm lucky enough to be alive to see. Great experience altogether and a spot I recommend reservations for. For such a great experience it was impressively affordable. Tempura eggs are as good as they sound and honestly a modern marvel of thermodynamics. I recommend the kelp broth.

Hanon is such a charming Williamsburg eatery with amazing fresh noodles. ~the service~ Hanon was super busy when we walked in for dinner on a Saturday evening- they were full but were able to accommodate us at the bar, which was nice. They definitely had to turn many people away. (3/5): I understand that they were busy on a weekend night, but it took us an hour to get our food from the time that we ordered (Not to mention an additional 15-20 minutes for our orders to be taken). ~the food~ Seiro Udon (5/5): The noodles were so fresh and chewy, so it was super worth it to get this cold noodle dish despite it being super cold outside. I couldn't really tell the difference between the bamboo leaf noodle and the baby barley leaf noodle, but both were equally springy in texture and a pleasurable experience. I got both the classic and the sesame dipping sauce- both were quite good and honestly I just dipped my noodles into both of them and was a happy trooper.

Rivals Raku as one of the best udon places in NYC. Michelin guide FOOD: -- chicken karaage: $4/piece, above average karaage, crispy; original vs soy garlic option -- chawanmushi: yum yum -- Niku: delicious meat & would reorder, Raku's Niku dish is better though; optional chili oil add-on -- tan-tan with garlic: amazing, flavorful broth, udon is chewy and of high quality ATMOSPHERE: great for date night TIPS: -- Monday: LIMITED menu with curry & tan-tan udon only, with certain appetizers available -- make a reservation through Resy at least 1 wk in advance for a preferred spot during prime time for the following wk -- if you did not make a reservation, get to the restaurant the moment it opens (and you will likely be sat at the bar) & there may still be people in front of you -- there's a Starbucks nearby if you need to wait

Best udon in NYC. I am a huge udon fanatic so was very excited to dine at Hanon. We came at the start of dinner service and we're able to snag seats indoors. I had the dipping udon with tempura (a seasonal dish I believe) while my bf had the tan tan udon. We both loved our dishes! The noodles are soft and chewy, but hold up to the broth. The tempura was incredibly crispy but light and everything was delicious. The ambiance is wonderful and the waitstaff were so attentive. I can't wait to dine here again!
