The restaurant is quite unique with its distinctive decor, offering mainstream food styles. The taste is decent, though it’s renowned for its udon, there’s still room for improvement.

Rice is not tasty and there is lot of it in a portion than fish. But here is very tasty eggplant appetizer .

Really enjoyed this place, felt like a proper Izakaya in parts (there's a cool bar seating bit round the back for 5-6 people) - huge sharing table too. Food is excellent, and I thought really fairly priced, great beer too - highly recommend!

The menu says something like assorted sashimi over sushi rice for $28 and I got what I would describe as a poke bowl. Cubed raw fish is not what I expect with a sashimi description even the freshwater eel was cut up in the same way and surprisingly tough. Otherwise quick if aggressive service. Wish there was a 2.5 for an absolutely average experience even though slightly disappointing

This place is good! Everything was super tasty and filling. Ordered the seaweed salad, veg gyoza, ramen & dessert.Apps were creative and a good amount of food for 2 people. The Mama ramen was spectacular! Broth tasted very fatty and rich, so if you’re looking for light fare this isn’t it. The pork was amazing, I think they may have glazed it with brown sugar or something sweet but it was subtle and not overpowering. Added bonus, they provide fried garlic and white pepper to jazz it up.Mama Anmitsu dessert was fine, not my favorite but the ice cream was very good.I’m hoping to go back and try the Udon dishes. Would highly recommend this spot.

walked in on a snowy day, was able to get seated quickly! ordered ebi tempura udon with an egg and their pork gyoza. loved their gyozas!! but the udon was lacking, not sure if it was because the noodles were off but the broth was alright. service was very kind, always checked in on us and showed us around! would come back and try something else :-).

We came for dating . It was perfect until our server disappeared. He was kind and attentive. Customers (couples)next to us yelled to server while he was serving us . How can he respond to them while he was serving different table . There is no way you can be rude because of your wife’s pregnancy. We wanted tips our server well but he didn’t come back. I thought he was kicked out by MG . Our server literally didn’t do anything wrong and we loved his work and conversation with him..we were upset MG decision too.It ruined our night..I felt sorry for our server . Stupid customers (we were next to them whole night . Some words were so aggressive) , and not supportive MG( new server and MG cared more rude customers not us…why!?scared of their reaction?)We found our original server were working at front side. Luckily we could say “ thank you” to him before leaving. We wanted to tip him well ..

My go to spot for Udon. Especially because they have a veggie broth option. I've been dining at Samurai mama for years and it's always been consistent in good food, service and ambience. I love their agedashi tofu, veggie tempura and Sansai udon. The udon never disappoints. Of all the Japanese spots I've dined in NYC, this is hands down the best veggie udon I've had. Many places don't really offer a veggie broth option so big plus for Samurai. Whenever I'm in the area I stop in for a bite. Great spot!
