One of my favorite places in the area to go. Food is delicious and the drinks are well poured. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and the manager and bar staff are excellent!

Last weekend we stopped by Champions for the first time for a nightcap, based on a recommendation from my brother that they have great homemade soups. Champions is the bar and restaurant located inside of the OTB. When you enter the main front door of OTB, Champions is up the stairs straight ahead. (I'm not sure if there is an elevator to make it accessible, so call ahead to ask, if you need that accommodation.) There is a large lot with plenty of easy parking. Upon entering the OTB, it definitely has a dingy, dive vibe, with bright unforgiving fluorescents, scattered sad faces, and paper garbage strewn everywhere. And upon entering the restaurant part of the building upstairs, it is essentially the same scene. This doesn't bother me, though; hole-in-the-wall establishments are my people. :-D But if that's not your jam, you've been forewarned. In the restaurant, we sat at a table. I'd say there about about a dozen tables, plus the bar that has around a dozen stools. It isn't a huge space, but with maybe eight other patrons in there at the time, we were all spread out just fine. The bartender was our server, who stayed masked the whole time (thank you for enforcing this health safety precaution). She was wonderfully friendly and fun! She was very attentive, and we had a few good laughs; just my favorite kind of local bar staff. :-) We arrived a couple minutes before 9pm, in time to catch the kitchen before they closed at 10pm. There was chili, plus four more delicious-sounding soups listed on the wall, but unfortunately all contained meat. My husband eats meat, but I am vegetarian. So this time around, NO SOUP FOR ME! ;-) But that was okay, we actually just came from dinner, so I wasn't hungry. The Champions menu mainly consists of fry foods (fries, rings, wings, poppers, sticks, fingers), sandwiches and subs, burgers, quesadillas, salads and soups, and a couple desserts. My husband ordered a bowl of the cheeseburger soup. I ordered a slice of apple pie alamode. I had a diet coke, and he went with the $5 mini-pitcher Coors Light special. The mini-pitcher was about the size of two full-to-the-brim pints. Regarding the food, we were both pleased with our picks. My husband said the cheeseburger soup was excellent. It looked very hot, creamy, and loaded with burger, potato, and other veggies. My pie was delicious. It was a generous warm slice, with a big scoop of fresh ice cream. Overall, we had a great time at Champions. My husbands mini-pitcher of beer was a great deal, and he's ready to come back for another and more soup. Prices are very reasonable across the board, the service was so sweet, and we were both happy with our late-night simple eats. My one star-deduction is because word is out, you have great soups, so it would be nice if one vegetarian option was kept in the lineup most of the time. I am hoping for something like a broccoli cheese, cream of mushroom, or hearty vegetable minestrone next time. Because we'll definitely be back! :-D
