Great place to be at

It's a total travesty that the Mahoney Fairmont closed. The Fairmont building lost an outstanding tenant in the closure of this fine restaurant/bar.

Delicious!! I kept seeing the Fairmont Creamery building and wondering what was inside. I'm from Los Angeles and love to try new foods when I'm on travel so I gave this place a try. I had the Mahoney burger (cooked medium rare) and it was pretty damn good. Unique flavors. The slaw on the side was tasty too. I also had the brownie sundae with caramelized bananas (hold the whip cream) and it was so goooood. This place is quality.

Can't beat the Mahoney. They have a great menu and food is delicious. All the employees are really enthusiastic about the restaurant. The bar tender told us she came to work there because she loved being a customer so much. Owner is friendly. It's in the Fairmont Creamery bldg. All around very solid.

Excellent atmosphere. Inside a building and was a little hard to find at first with GPS. Food was good. I chose the steak on an onion rings apptizer (which was plenty for a meal). My friend got a cheesy burger which was great. I ate half of it. Food selection was okay. Not much interested me other than those 2 things. Drink selection was okay. Some mixed cocktails and a wine list. Service was also just okay. Not bad but nothing notable. Overall, I'd say this place just "okay"...meaning it was fun to try out a new place and the decoration/architecture was really cool but I wasn't blown away by the food and service. Still, I'd return for a 2nd round. Great place to go to before a sabres/bandits game.

I was here for a HH and didn't get a chance to enjoy food. I plan to return to do so. It's located in a mixed use building down by the Buffalo Casino. Parking can be a challenge. I didn't end up in the lot attached but there is a space between that lot and the building next door that has spots. It's the difference of a sidewalk. Not bad. Just a tad confusing so be on the lookout for it as your approach. Bathrooms were clean and bright. Beer selection is standard fare. Service was awesome. A little more expensive than others in the area but the feel of the space warrants the extra dollar. A lot of space and very comfortable for a happy hour. I can't wait to return to check out their menu.

My husband met me for lunch. He had seen some of the food one night when we were there before a Sabres game and he wanted to try it for himself. He was not disappointed! We started with the chorizo stuffed jalapenos which were delicious, not too spicy or too mild, just right. He had a bowl of the soup of the day which today was New England clam chowder and it had lots of pieces of clams and had a great flavor. For lunch, he had the shredded beef Colorado, which is basically a burrito and it comes with a side of chips and salsa. He was really happy with it and said it was really filling. I ordered the stir fry vegetables and shrimp which is not on the normal menu, it's a special for people that live or work in the building and it's one of my favorites. It has a ton of veggies over a bed of brown rice and then some shrimp. The sauce is super yummy and my husband liked it so much he almost ordered one to go! It was quiet when we arrived, so service was great and food came out hot. Nice place to stop in for a quick lunch or grab something to go.

I went to The Mahony for dinner last night (a Tuesday) with a friend. Just a tip, parking, especially on a night when there is a game, is tricky. There are reserved spots for the other businesses in the building and only a handful for the restaurant. I ended up parking in a reserved spot and going in to ask the bartender if it was okay. It was since it was after 6pm. The bartenders and our waiter were very friendly, great service. We started with a beer each, the selection was good. We ordered a Mahoney Burger (burger/reuben combo) and the shredded beef Colorado burrito to share. The burger was very tasty although it came out medium well and we had ordered medium rare. We upgraded to the fries, which were good but nothing to write home about. The burrito was also very flavorful and came with fresh chips and salsa. I saw previous reviews that they usually grill the burrito? Ours wasn't so it was a little bit soggy, but not enough to ruin the taste. My suggestion to the restaurant is they should always grill it :) Our bill came to a little over 50 dollars after tip. While I definitely don't consider that an expensive dinner out, i've had equally as good of food for less money. I'm assuming you're paying additionally for the atmosphere which was definitely up to par. They really did amazing things with the old creamery building, and I was blown away by the decor and attention to detail-even in the bathrooms! I will be back again to try other things on the menu!.

I love this little gem on Scott Street (except of course if there is a hockey game then parking is for the dogs). Host was a fabulous - very in tuned man - who knew everything that was going on in his dining area. I must reflect a long time to think of the last place I dined at where I can say there was anyone making sure the "house" was in order. It was refreshing, and for whatever reason is a very important aspect of a well run place to me. The menu is casual (salads, burgers, entrees), yet tasty and fresh in appearance. I had the Asian Noodle soup and the Nori crusted salmon which was a starter but a perfect portion for me. The place housed lots of traffic from the people who live in the building, Sabre fans getting one last drink, doing so at a gorgeous long bar. Music was playing from the one jazz singer and after dinner we even sat at the most comfy couches in the lobby and talked. That wonderful host even offered to bring us a nightcap. Loved the atmosphere!! I'll return soon.

Loved it! We had the shredded beef burrito, pub burger with fries, and oreo snickers ice cream parfait. Everything was fantastic! The hostess and server were pleasant and personable, service was quick, and the price was right.

An old building re purposed into an apartment/loft building with a restaurant on the ground floor. I had the chicken Caesar salad. I asked for dressing on the side; the salad came dressed with an small extra container of dressing. It's possible the waiter thought I wanted extra dressing or it's just that the Romaine was already dressed.....I did not question it and it was not explained that a Caesar cannot be served with dressing on the side? The salad was a nice size for lunch, with a good amount of chicken breast sliced over the top. I think a dinner roll/baguette would have been a nice addition.

Recently had lunch at the Mahony. The restaurant is in an old industrial building which is also still somewhat visible on the inside. The Mahony is mostly 1 big area with one long divider in the middle. It was not very busy this time, but I can imagine it can be loud in there. The food did not disappoint. My wife had a chicken caesar salad. It was a nice size salad with a nice amount of grilled chicken on top. My wife asked for dressing on the side. The salad was however served with some dressing already on it and an extra cup of dressing on the side. I had the Mahony burger. This burger is a cross over between a regular hamburger and a Reuben. Ground beef and corned beef topped with pickels, kraut, cheese (Emmentaler) and spicy mustard, served on a marble rye kaiser roll. Not too big, just nice for lunch. As a side you could get fries or a white bean salad. I had the salad, that was served in a small glass dish. Nicely seasoned.

The criteria that I gave which ended up with me receiving the suggestion to try out The Mahony was, "A nice and quiet but casual dinner date place which offers actual food items that are not carb heavy. Unique dining experience is a plus." The Mahony is located on the outskirt of downtown Buffalo. From afar, the building that houses it looks more like a factory; indeed, the building's name, "The Fairmont Creamery Building," made me wonder if Google Map had stirred me wrong for once, but the sign on the parking lot was unmistakeable. So, albeit a bit hesitantly, into the building my husband and I went for our dinner date. The interior of The Mahony is somehow industrial and elegent all at the same time, with exposed ventilation tubes and pipes on the ceiling and brick walls. The elegance made me wonder for a second if we were underdressed, but seeing how casually the host was dressed immediately put both of us at ease; this definitely fit the "casual" criteria! As we were led to our table, I was hit by my next misconception of The Mahony and found myself thinking, "(The person who recommended this place) has a very different idea than I am of what "quiet" means!" We could hear the constant hum of the ventilation system, and it seemed too loud at first. After we were seated, I mentioned my earlier thought to my husband, and he agreed. We were both in good humor however, as we liked everything else about the place so far. As we chatted though, we started to realize, much to our delight, that the constant background hum actually doesn't hinder conversations. Somehow, maybe due to the layout and acoustic of The Mahony, the hum acts more as a buffer between us and the next table over so we can talk without shouting and still have an illusion of privacy! Quiet and dinner date, check! Now onto the food choices. At our server's recommendation, I decided to try the Spicy Asian Soup for an appetizer and the Chicken, Eggplant, Scallop Parmesan Trio for my entree. My husband decided to go for the Chicken Burrito, and (again, at our server's recommendation), opted to decline an appetizer. It was a good choice, as his burrito was large enough to satisfy a hearty appetite! It was grilled (kind of panini style) and served with chips and salsa. My own soup was quite delicious, with raw bean sprouts added on top for freshness and crunch. The parmesan trio was served on top of a layer of marinara sauce, as opposed to slathered with marinara, so that I was able to enjoy a lot of crunchiness with every bite (as opposed to the usual sogginess toward the end of the meal). This was definitely "high end dining" taste without the need to dress up for it! Nice but casual, check! In conclusion, as impossible as my criteria might have seemed at first, The Mahony fulfilled it completely. All in all, it was a very satisfying experience. The Mahony is now our favorite place for a nice casual quiet dinner date. We will definitely be back.

I ate the three other people here and not a single one of use was happy with our experience. All of our food was WAY too spicy, and we come from Texas. The burger was dry and over cooked. The salad was fine, too spicy for me, but normal people would like it. The special enchilada was so spicy the person couldn't finish it. It is also $$$ not $$. The average price of a menu item was at least $15 or higher. There are no vegetarian options. Not really.
