My experience might have been a fluke, but I would suggest ordering out from here rather than dining in (unless you like a dead atmosphere). They also don’t let you sit at the sushi bar (i wanna see the fish, and talk to the chef, before I buy it)

The quality of the fish is outstanding, it is easily the best in the Albany area. I visit here frequently to see family and I have tried all the well reviewed sushi places. Somehow I missed Modu, but you might say I saved the best for last. This is not a Japanese fusion place, which are very common in the area and usually focus on a trendy atmosphere. Modu is more traditional and you are going to get very high quality fish which is absolutely delicious. Between the tasty food and good service our whole group of six agreed that it is obvious why it is so highly rated and we were all wondering how we missed it. We’re definitely coming back.

Best sushi we’ve had in the entire Capital District. Delicious Korean options, too.Kid-friendliness: 100% kid friendly

We had gone to Modu on a whim considering how local it is for me and some of my family and I was blown away by the quality of everything. The space was really cozy and inviting. As for the Sushi itself, some of the best I've ever had with no exaggerating. A Gem of a restaurant ?Kid-friendliness: Staff was wonderfully kind to my younger sister, overall would give the highest marks.

By far the best tuna sushi anywhere in the Cap Region . You will not regret it . Also great service

Update: tried it fresh, sushi is still very soft but it was so delicious fresh! Pairs well with a bottle of Sapporo. It was real quiet inside. and the staff constantly checked on us to see what we needed!

Tried the sushi for take out once and liked it so much we decided to come dine in. Didn't disappoint. The whole family enjoyed the meal. GREAT service and TERRIFIC food. Hard to find good sushi since Saso's left Albany but this is a really good place.

Best sushi in capital district that we have tried so far. Tuna is grade 2+(or maybe above), much better than any sushi place in the area that we are aware off(mostly grade 3, 2 if you are lucky). Our daughters who do'nt like tuna devoured them.Bathroom is fine and clean, but outside the bathroom smells funky sewage tough, or burnt hair....so eat in the front and dont go to the bathroom..(i had to go with the little ones)

Had a delicious dinner here. Very healthy, fresh, excellent service and atmosphere. Rolls, bibimbap, miso soup - everything was excellent. Great price too! Definitely recommended

Great place. The bibimbap (sp?) is the best.

Not very impressed. I was the only person in the place and they refused to seat me at the sushi bar.Ordered a variety of sashimi, cut in chunks rather than thinly sliced, and the only thing served cold and fresh was the yellowtail. Everything else was almost room temp and tasted slightly off.I won't be going back.

My daughter found Modu and we met there for dinner tonight and wow! We’re both sushi lovers and were immediately impressed with the friendly, Japanese family run service. The miso soup, seaweed salad and even the ginger and wasabi were all clearly house made and next level. The salmon, yellowtail, and tuna nigiri was super fresh, meticulously prepared and absolutely delicious. The birthday and modu rolls were equally delicious. This is a legitimate Japanese sushi restaurant. We found our new sushi spot and will definitely be back!
