I usually go here for lunch in the summer. This week is the first time I ate dinner here in the winter and the last time. I'm not afraid of the cold but it was too cold in the restaurant. They didn't want to turn on the heat at all. I'll wait until the warmer months to come back.

Food has been so consistently delicious for 20+ years. I remember going in my teens, now I'm in my 40s. Never a drop in quality and the staff is always wonderful.

A lovely place to sit down and enjoy food while getting away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life. We ordered several ala carte rolls, the inari sushi combo, and an oshinko appetizer and eat items are worth every cent. A perfect balance of textures and flavours in each roll while also being of good size!

I live in Whitestone and this is my go to sushi place. The fish is always very fresh and soft, with great texture. Great prices (if you order to pick up) for this quality of fish. The only thing I would change is, I believe the salad (when you choose soup or salad with a special) is pre packed in tupperware and is sometimes not as crisp. So I always order a miso soup instead.

I come here a lot with my family today i came with my son and his friends and the waitress was very rude and disrespectful they also forgot one of my sons friends food and when i would attempt to ask them they would put there hand up at me like i was a random non paying person i feel truly disrespected by how i was treated. I do not recommend this place.

A nice cozy place to eat at with your family! I always order the Teriyaki Mushrooms and Calamari for appetizers and Nabe Yaki Udon or Salmon Teriyaki for the main course. The staff here has always been welcoming and the kindest waitresses that remember your face always brightens up my day! Please support this small business.

Solid and affordable spot for sushi. Their service was especially sweet and I would rate that separately at 4 stars. The chirashi was wonderful: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, crab, octopus, shrimp, and mackerel. I especially enjoyed the mackerel, fishy and smoky. It comes with a soup and salad, and my only complaint is the drown the salad in ginger dressing. The dressing is good, they just don't need to use so much! The wasabi pork dumplings are also a must, the wasabi infused into the dumpling wrapper. I personally wasn't feeling their roll options. I like a alot of tuna/salmon combos, or eel rolls, and I just wasn't seeing many of those that spoke to me. I also tend to pick special rolls that aren't fried, and they didn't have a lot of "big deal" rolls that get kind of busy with many ingredients. Two rolls featured cream cheese, another boneless chicken, three variations on the basic California roll - just odd choices. I forget what I ended up ordering, but it was covered in way too much crunch. Other than that I thought it tasted good. It's not a restaurant to come out of your way for but it's good choice if you're in the area. The only thing I would order again was the dynamite appetizer: broiled scallops, crabmeat, "mushroom caviar", and mayonnaise. The ingredients did not mesh well, the scallop was mushy, there was a lot of excess liquid, and there were mushrooma but I'm not sure what about them made them "caviar".

This is hands down the best bang for your buck when it comes to sushi in NYC. Even compared to some of the more high-end places, you just will not find better quality sushi in the old school style.Raymond, the owner, is a sweetheart and he shows his passion for his craft through the quality of his food. I’ve been coming to Akiyama for 7 years with my fiancé who has been going to Akiyama for nearly 20 years. We have never been disappointed or let down by a meal here.If you’re looking for great sushi and don’t want to pay an arm and a leg, please consider Akiyama!
