Very friendly local fish store. Usually a good selection of fish with a lot of the staples found elsewhere. One big benefit, is they usually carry salt cod as well which can not always be easily found in my area.

Got tons of basil from the Forest Hills CSA this week, so I went to Joe’s Fish for shrimp - I prefer wild to farmed, they have multiple sizes.Made the Bon Apetit shrimp-and-basil-stir-fry. Yum!!

Jumbo shrimps seem old and smelled like chlorine! Unacceptable.Place seems like doesn't meet the sanitary standards and it is overpriced.

The best and most fresh fish in queens

This guy takes the time, money aside, to get the top catch, best, fresh fish. As sustainable as probably might be possible. So fresh, so nice. Excellent. Absolutely worth repeated visits. Really love this place.

UNHYGENIC For years, I was a customer and a fan of this place. However, there was recently a mix up in the scallops that I purchased. While that was an inconvenience for me, the way the issue was handled was terrible and unsanitary. The mixup was over scallops - I asked if the scallops I was looking at were dry scallops, and the woman responded, "I don't know." I bought what I thought were dry scallops, but they were terribly salty, so I called the store and explained the situation. The manager told me to bring the scallops back to the store and he would give me my money back. When I entered the store and handed the back of scallops to the manager, he said, "You already cooked these, so I can't put them back." Um, what? You put back fish that was removed from the store? Department of Health, are you listening? Then the manager pulled out a dry scallop from his fish display, took a bite, and said "These have no salt. Here, taste this," and he offered me a bite of the same scallop he just took a bite of. But that's not the worst part. After I declined, he PUT THE BITTEN SCALLOP BACK WITH THE OTHER SCALLOPS IN THE DISPLAY and covered them. I said, "You're putting it back?" and he just covered them like all was well. A heated discussion ensued, in which both the manager and the woman accused me of being cheap and wrong about everything, even though I reminded them I had been a customer there for years. The woman denied she ever said "I don't know," and overall the situation was handled terribly. I say this as someone who worked in food service for years. Even though I'm a big fish fan, and this is the only fish store on Metropolitan Avenue, I'm not going back.

I've been here several times for oysters, clams, and salmon. I also picked up frog legs. Good prices and very fresh. I've been happy with the customer service as well, and they'll give plenty of ice and pack it so it doesn't bruise the fish.

I did not like having to pay a surcharge for using my credit card.

I've been shopping at Joe's fish market for over 40 years, from when he first opened on Knickerbocker ave, then moved to 67 ave, and now on Metropolitan ave. And that is because his prices are fair, the quality is always freash, and the service is great !!! Thank you Joe !
