The food and atmosphere was great, however, the service was slow. People got hungry waiting for the food and one of the wine orders seemed to have been forgotten till after we started

On Monday March 4th, 2024 my two sons took me out for my birthday to Ruth Chris Steak House located 600 old country rd. garden city new york. We had reservations for 5pm. We were greeted by a host named JADA. The first words out of her mouth was a hoodies are not allowed inside the restaurant. One of my sons had one on. My son said politely there is nothing regarding hoddies on the internet. He then took it off bc we didnt want any problems. Since it was a early reservation there were only a few tables taken. As the night went on we noticed...yes people with HOODIES SEVERAL OF THEM. Finally i said hey im going to tell JADA WHATS GOING ON. While walking to see her a female manager said my i help you?? I said i wanted to tell JADA something...she said tell me...I told her what happened and immediately she went to the DRESS CODE HANGING ON THE WALL. She read it and said it doesnt say anything about hoodies. The manager told JADA and she said well that is what i was told. Yes but there are other customers with hoodies i said. I did not want to turn this into a race issue. But when you are spending 700.00 plus hundred dollars on steak and drinks it must be brought up. The manager said she will talk to her manager. While walking out we saw him and he really didnt seem to care regarding our complaint. More importantly NO NO APOLOGIES!!!!! This is unacceptable behavior especially from upper management. COLOR OF YOUR SKIN SHOULD NOT DICTATE POLICY!!! ALL OF US SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME. LAST TIME AT RUTH CHRIS MAINLY THIS ONE. A SIMPLE APOLOGY GOES A LONG WAY. WILL KEEP ALL OF YOU UPDATED IF WE GET A APOLOGY......UPDATE!!!! MARCH 18TH....SENT THE INFORMATION THEY REQUESTED...NO EMAIL, CALL OR APOLOGY STILL WAITING...WILL KEEP ALL OF YOU INFORMED...

Thanks everyone in advance for taking the time to read this review.Firstly, the dress code situation will always be controversial (you can thank FABOLOUS for this predicament). I’ve encountered firsthand seeing construction workers wearing their Local 79 hoodies covered with that day’s debris shown straight to the main dining area while other’s wearing Gucci hoodies get banished to the corner booth at the bar. The host and manager will always point to the dress code sign for their protection and if you don’t have the right “complexion for the protection” then unfortunately you’ll always be scrutinized when you walk in.Secondly, this restaurant is dealing with a heavy identity crisis. On one page they’re advertising a $150 tomahawk steak and directly afterwards there’s a $60 full prix fixe menu. Which begs the question, what audience are you trying to market to? And if it’s the latter, then why are you enforcing a dress code? Now on to my recent experience with Ruth Chris. While they updated their décor it looked to be under the sacrifice of service and food quality.Food:Tomahawk and filet were both undercooked. All steak plates did not come “sizzling”, which is a signature of the restaurant. The quality of the meat has also gone downhill, while they advertise “prime” steak, you can easily confuse it for a lesser grade. The cream spinach was soupy and watered down. The cheesecake was undercooked, they did not chill it for the cake to solidify as the inside was runny.Service:For a Saturday evening the display of service was truly amateur hour. While the water was replenished, I had to ask repeatedly for any drink refills that came from the bar.We asked for our tomahawk to be sliced which they forgot, the Matre’d sliced it table side with what seemed to be a dull blade and the final presentation looked awful. No visit from the general manager, even though this was for a table of 7 for a special occasion. The bussers asked if we were done with our meal, and we stated there were some leftover steaks we wanted to take home and instead of taking the food to the back for packaging they brought out boxes and bags for us to package. Finally, and the reason why I decided to write this review, it took over 15+ minutes for our waiter to get us our check. I finally decided to go look for him just to find him chatting it up with his group of colleagues at the POS terminal. And with the Chain being acquired by Darden Restaurants you can easily see that the food and quality are being shifted closer to Olive Garden then a real steakhouse. So, if you want to say you spent $150 on a white tablecloth “steakhouse” that’s fine but if you want to get possibly profiled, eat poor quality steak and receive inadequate service I would save that $150 and just go to Texas Roadhouse.

For special occasions, my husband and I prefer to dine at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. We went there to celebrate my birthday, and it was a bit busier than usual. Despite that, we had a great time. We had made a reservation, but the dining room was packed. However, the staff escorted us to a smaller dining room at the back. While it wasn't our ideal choice, it was cozy and intimate. The food was amazing, as always. The lobster was cooked to perfection, and the dessert, bread pudding, was my favorite. It was absolutely delicious and deserves a 5-star rating!

We had a wonderful dining experience there. The service was excellent and the food was great. My wife who is very pickyvabout fine dining establishments had no complaint and was very satisfied.

I have been here so many times and never felt compelled enough to leave a review until now. The excellent service I received from Elvin was like no other. He was so attentive and the recommendations on the food was on point. He is very knowledgeable and super friendly. I recommend anyone visiting this location in Westbury to ask for Elvin. Thank you !
