I am Cuban-born and US raised, in a predominantly Cuban neighborhood in New Jersey where authentic Cuban food was very much the norm. I have also been eating less meat of late, or at least enjoying good vegetarian and vegan options, and when I tell you that that Monte black bean paste, Swiss cheese, sauteed onion and plantain sandwich is the business, I am NOT kidding! I was truly wowed by the inventive addition to the Cuban standards, drawing upon traditional Cuban flavors and seasoning to come up with a vegetarian option that has nothing to envy (nada que envidiarle, as Cubans like to say) any of the meat-based dishes. This Cuban restaurant/"cafetería" (not really a sit-down place, but the little space there is is bright, clean, and very pleasant, bar stool and counter setup) deserves five stars and would have them if the people giving fewer than five knew the cuisine like some of us do, from birth. Whether it's their thing or not is another story, but this is Cuban food of the utmost quality and not diluted by any other cuisines' spice or flavor profiles. Keep up the brilliant work, guys - I look forward to working my way through the classics on this menu, and that is an exciting and promising prospect because of the quality of everything I had tonight: the Monte sandwich; PERFECTLY FRIED, light, not greasy, and completely ripe sweet plantains (too many places serve plantains that aren't totally ripe and it's better not to have any, honestly); and a croqueta-stuffed empanada, an idea crazy enough to work and also brilliantly executed).

Amazing! Just go, trust me.My family and I had the pernil with rice and black beans, the vegetarian sandwich, the guava and cheese empanada, the flan de queso, and the rice pudding. Everything was delicious, and everyone was so nice. You won’t regret it!

I went to the restaurant with the idea of eating my Cuban food since I saw videos and photos on their website that the food and Cuban sandwich looked delicious. The cooks are not Cuban since I saw it I imagined that I would not be happy with the food so If you go with the idea of eating Cuban, not at all. The food we ordered, my husband and I, couldn't eat it because it had a lot of salt. We ordered a Cuban sandwich to take away and we couldn't eat it at home either. In short, eating it is not at all satisfied with the salty pernil. The only Cuban thing is the name Matanzas Cuba Cafe. The person who served us, I think, is the owner, very friendly and served us well, but I think it is a big mistake, a Cuban restaurant and the cooks are not Cubans with This experience I will not go to another restaurant to eat if they are not what the restaurant claims to be. If you really want to eat Cuban food you expect Cubans to make your food. The truth is I will not go again ?.

Highly recommend if you're in the mood for some Cuban food. We ordered delivery and everything was still hot.The Cubano was a 5/5 for us, a huge portion which easily serves 2 people. Bread was toasted well and ingredients were balanced - a big complaint with other cubanos were they had too much meat, not enough cheese, etc.The vaca frita fries were decent, 3.75/5. The meat was fried well but we wish they came with another sauce. Their default sauce (todito) seems like mostly mayo and too thick imo. With a different one, I can see this easily being a 5/5.The empanada was delicious but the cheese/guava seemed to shift to one side during delivery. 4/5 but would happily order it again. Super crispy and decently sized. A tad expensive (4 dollars where I can find similar ones for 2).The croquettes and pastelito were our least favorite, not bad but we'll pass on them next time.Excited to try this place out in person next time!

I ordered a ton of food for my staff of over 30 people and they did not disappoint!! When we got there to pick up everything was ready to go. They helped us load everything in the car and they were so nice and helpful. We ordered rice, beans, chicken and maduros. We even got a guava con queso to go and it was delicious!! Thank you all for everything. My staff loved all of it! We will be back to visit.

Great Cuban food in a small space off Central Avenue. Ordered for take our: Mimi’s Croquettas - tasty little morsels of ground chicken and ham croquettes; Cubano Sandwich and Frita Cubana Smash Burger Sandwich - solid all around. The restaurant is a little compact - just some counter seating facing the window. There is a public parking lot across the street. I found a spot around the corner on Central Avenue. Definitely will be back to try more of the menu and their daily specials.
