I'd give it another star BUT, the lunch box is not a good deal (mostly rice and naan). I am not a big eater but was not satisfied (especially since the tiny portion of goat (1/2 cup) was a mix of fat, bone, gristle and tough meat). The veg masala dosa was excellent but I like my coconut chutney in the classic way. This coconut chitney is red and spicy (why not add a mysore dosa to menu?). The accompanying sambaar is very good and just spicy enough.

My partner and I ordered delivery from Shirley's. While pricey, it's a solid option for the area. Their portions are generous for entrees, though we did find the samosas to be a bit small. When they say spicy, they mean it! We liked the beef fry, even though it was a little dry. The lamb korma taste was a bit average but had some good chunks of meat! The naan texture was a little different than I've had before, but it's a good compliment to the dishes.

As a Keralite myself, Shirley Aunty's food is absolutely delicious. We order catering trays from her for all of the important milestones in our lives and she always delivers consistently delicious food. Thank you to Shirley Aunty and the entire team!

Portions are ridiculous and food is always spectacular. Make sure you order ahead of schedule because the food takes time to be prepared. This is not order and in 20 min it is ready sort of place. Give it an hour. The chicken tikka masala, saag goat, beef korma are winners. The chicken 65 is some sort of dish they made up and it is my favorite. Honestly, it gives you the most bang for your buck. The saucy dishes have less meat bc, well...all of the sauce and since this dish does not, you get way more meat. Yay! It is a bit spicy, but not overkill. The veggie pakora was the best I have ever had, but I did not see it on the online menu this time. Tried the onion pakora and it was underwhelming. Total hole in the wall place and easy to miss when walking by. As far as I know, it is only take out. I hope they have indoor dining at some point.

We really enjoy the butter chicken empanadas, and hope they make it a permanent addition to the menu! Other things we have ordered are great too. We keep craving the food and keep coming back!

Ordered on Sunday wanting some authentic Kerala food and North Indian for my kids. - bread Basket : one of the few items that was delicious. Was a mix of garlic naan, poori and Paratha. - chicken tikka masala : was really good. - mixed grille : it was just a mix of lamb kabobs and chicken tikka. The chicken had no flavor and the lamb kabobs were pretty much burnt. The ends were hard and inedible. - Aviyal, Beef Curry, Thoran all Kerala staples had no real flavor. Was disappointed. Guess the place is more know for their North Indian style dishes. The person who gave me the order was very polite and helpful. The food was ready on time when I came to pick it up and the bread basket and chicken tikka masala was great. That's the reason for the 3 stars!

Outstanding! In a class by itself. There are quite a few restaurants serving Indian food in the area but shirleys is by far the best in all of NYC. Everything is made fresh to order and of the highest quality. (No fast food here) I'm a vindalooo junkie. If you like it hot,, this it the one to get! I recently came across shirleys via yelp and have ordered 4 times in less than 2 weeks, mind you in live in the BX. Even though I really want to try something different, I have yet to order anything else for my main entree than chicken vindaloo but I've had the chicken 65, chicken Tikka wraps and the cabbage thoran as appetizers and the flavor, texture and portions are all satisfying. The food is well packaged and made with love. I really can't get enough! Just know its not a restaurant. Its literally a walk up window in a giant kitchen on the first floor of a residential building but don't let that discourage you! If you're pulling up for the 1st time, just ring the bell or order online and wait 25 - 35 minutes for some life changing indian cuisine. You will not regret it.

This past weekend, we sought out an alternative to our regular Indian restaurants - Coromandel (good, but not great) and Coriander (great, but a bit too far and too pricey) - and came upon Shirley's. And I am glad we did - it's a good find. There were only 3 of us, so we were able to sample only four dishes. Before I give a final rating, I probably need to try a few others. But we're off to a very good start. The onion pakora were outstanding. Delicious. If you like your vindaloo hot, you've come to the right place. Just a taste of the chicken vindaloo had me hiccuping. And though there was certainly a lot of fire - I like spicy food, and this dish was pretty close to the outer limits of where "spicy hot" and "edible" overlap for me - it didn't overwhelm the sheer deliciousness of the fabulous, subtle, and beguiling taste of the dish. The Rogan Josh's was likewise delicious. Its sauce was really great. A vegetarian dish was tasty, but wasn't in the league of the first two. An impressive first outing with Shirley's. I am looking forward to having food from there again. Recommended

First time eating from here. Read the reviews and gave it a try. We are used to Indian food from Queens. Shirley's was excellent. Really happy it wasn't the usual over-salted food. Everything was great. I felt bad for the woman who was doing the cooking. She was working so hard and she looked like she was going to cry because I had to wait. Please let her know that it was worth the wait. Highly recommend- and it's local

Bit of background - from the UK where Indian food is ubiquitous and much loved. It's my favorite dish - if I were to end up on Death Row, my last meal would be a curry Since moving to the states, finding anything resembling a proper curry is a challenge - a lot of places I have found mute the flavors for the American palate and they just aren't as authentic as I am used to. However, Shirley's is by far, the best and authentic curry I have had since moving here. The spiciness, consistency and texture are all bang on. The vegetarian starter platter is outstanding - the Samosas fantastic, the onion pakora (bhajis where I come from) were spot on. I had the Beef fry which is something I have not had before but was delicious. The lady has the fish vindaloo which was also much loved. Even the sauces are amazing. The food is that good, that if I do ever end up on Death Row, I'll have Shirley cook that curry.

I ordered the Shrimp Biryani and it was amazing! I asked for it to be a bit more spicy and they did an awesome job! The dish was very flavorful and I was happy with my order. The only thing I would recommend is adding a bit more shrimp to the dish, as there wasn't a lot. Overall, I would order from here again!

What an incredible find! We discovered this place after looking for takeout options post climbing at the Rock Club in New Rochelle. We were enticed by the pictures of paratha and were thrilled to discover an authentic and delicious South Indian home cooking operation! They are takeout only but so amazing and highly recommended! We've quickly become regulars and except on a few "not so great" days, every single item we've ordered has been phenomenal. Order everything or make multiple returns and work your way down the menu. The biryani, the vegetarian dishes, the beef fry, the appetizers, the bread, the paratha rolls.. EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS!!

I don't live far from this place and I had no idea it existed. I had trouble finding it for pickup, even with the address. It's literally a hole in the wall and I walked right by it. So did the guy who was waiting there ahead of me. I would give it 5 stars except almost an hour wait on a Wednesday night seems long. We got a vegetarian appetizer plate which was delicious, huge and came with an array of sauces. We also got a vegetarian dhosa which was likewise huge and delicious. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other dishes which have gotten good reviews here.

I order from Shirley's pretty frequently and they never fail to impress me. Their food is absolutely delicious and so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. I am a vegetarian and my go-to order is paneer tikka masala with some garlic naan. It is heavenly, and the portions are very generous. Definitely give Shirley's a try!
