A great experience overall, with no complaints really! This was my second time here and it’s still just as good. Unless money comes easy to you, this isn’t a casual eatery in my opinion (perhaps lunch though, as I’ve only ever been here for dinner). It’s definitely not cheap but for a special occasion it is a wonderful treat. The cocktails are all Broadway themed which I think is fun, and the one I had was packed with fresh, muddled fruit which was delicious. For food, I can’t recommend enough the goat cheese and pistachio soufflé, so tasty!! I also get the steak frites which is always solid in my book. My other guests enjoyed their crusted branzino and chicken with lemon and sage; two other solid choices. My mother in law had the meatloaf which she said she enjoyed but was perhaps slightly too sweet for her taste. Although, admittedly, her tolerance for anything sweet is notably low, so interpret that how you will. And for dessert the banana split was outrageously good, especially the caramelized banana and toasted marshmallow. The only thing I would change there would be to swap out the scoop of strawberry ice cream with chocolate flavor, as the strawberry clashed a bit in my opinion.Again, this place is wonderful and I can’t wait until I can afford to go back and try other things on their menu.

Home Run Experience…. We arrived a bit before opening and we were greeted with open arms. The owner chatted with us, the waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu, specials and cocktails. The food and drinks were wonderful! Fish dishes were a hit at the table, appetizers were creative and tasty and the desserts were sweet and tasty. This is a can’t miss!

Overall the food was pretty good, but my fish (branzino on a delicious polenta) special was only passable for the hefty price. Others had short rib that was way overdone (maybe they like to serve it with a crunchy exterior?). My spouse’s crusted tilapia was a hit. VERY cramped seating.

Great Rye cocktail, tasted similar to a classic Johnnie Ginger. The pan seared scallops are absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The Mac and Cheese could’ve been better, wasn’t the best I’ve had. Brilliant Steak Frites! Steak was cooked to perfection with immaculate grill marks, very crispy fries, and really delicious sauce.Really great and quick service. Very responsive staff that checked on us often!

Great place. Food was delicious. Started with the chicken quesadilla which seems odd I know but wow was it amazing. Then had the short ribs with mashed potatoes, my mouth is watering thinking about the meal. It did get loud but it was manageable.

My beautiful girlfriend and I had the pleasure of dining at your establishment for brunch last Sunday, and I must say the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. Having been there on previous occasions, I had the pleasure of meeting Scott during one visit and bruce on our most recent one. Their friendly and attentive service truly enhances the overall experience. The quality of the food remains consistently excellent. We recommend you make it your go-to spot for meals throughout the week, with Sundays being the perfect spot for brunch. We appreciate the efforts of your staff in creating a welcoming atmosphere, and we look forward to many more delightful visits in the future.

Obsessed with the goat cheese and pistachio soufflé, and the Mac and cheese is not to be missed. Friendly and fun servers in a chic atmosphere. A pre-theatre brunch AND dinner favorite for my family and me!

The busstaff was aggressive and rude literally grabbing and snatching glasses and plates off the table. I have never seen anything like that. They were so rude, one even moved my gloves to grab a plate, another one took the utensils and bread away when we weren't finished. I will never return, not a fun place. Additionally the people working there run around, and few just stare at you. Dont go

The food is good however, it was 43 degrees out and they had no room indoors and assured us they had blankets and heat lamp for their outdoor seating. They brought the bread and butter but no plates and cutlery. It took another 10 minutes to bring the items. The heat lamps did not work and they didn't bring the blankets untill twenty minutes after we were seated, ordered our food and freezing. The table next to us suffered the same fate. Only 1 of the three heat lamps was working and that person was on the far end opposite our table. Our waiter was UNSYMPATHETIC that were were cold and did not want to reduce the price or comp us a round of drinks for our trouble. We wanted to leave but we had ordered the food. I will never eat here again. THEY NEED TO WORK ON CUSTOMER SERVICE. Paying full price to eat in the cold is not acceptable. Your food is not that transformative to sacrifice my comfort.

My daughter and I had a pre theater dinner here on a Saturday night. Even at 5 pm, it was busy and just continued to fill as the night went on. Every table was full and as soon as one group left, another took their spot. It is beautiful designed. Simple, yet elegant. The tables are REALLY close to each other, as is common in NYC, but you almost feel like you are on a double date with the table next to you. You can chose to pretend you don't hear each others conversations, or engage with each other. We tried a little bit of both. Our waiter, I want to say Mark (I'm so sorry if I got it wrong), was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Even as busy as he was. The food was superb. Maybe our best meal in NYC this trip! The soup of the day - a version of Cream of Asparagus and celery with some shell fish was amazing! It took all my self control to not pick up the bowl and lick it clean. I had the halibut which was perfect! My daughter had the pan seared filet which was also perfect. The desserts - a flourless chocolate cake and my daughter's 4x4 was to die for. Honestly, there was nothing bad or even subpar. I will definitely be recommending 44 & X to people looking for a great meal in midtown area!

We were visiting over the holidays and staying very close by. A friend had recommended we try this place and wow are we happy we did! We loved it so much we went back for a second evening. The food is phenomenal! There was nothing we tried that was less than spectacular. (Pro tip: get the Filet Mignon, it was unreal!) The dessert in the photo is the banana split. It was so good I had to have it both times we visited. The cocktails were so delicious and creative! Again, loved everything we tried. (Highly recommend the Bacardi to the Future. Definitely had a few of these!)The service is beyond great. (Your water glass will never be empty!) So prompt, so lovely, such good vibes. The ambience was beautiful. We brought my mom for her birthday and they sang a very sweet and unexpected rendition of happy birthday for her. She felt so special and it warmed our hearts to see.The space itself is a tight squeeze (It is midtown Manhattan) but super cozy. And the bathroom is lovely, which very important for me! I recommend making a reservation just to be safe as it was quite full on our first visit.Big thank you to Scott, David, and the rest of the beautiful staff. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. We'll be back in Hell's Kitchen later this month and are absolutely planning to return. Highly, highly recommend. ?
