Restaurant is physically closed but still is taking orders from platforms like ChowNow. Otherwise, while it was open the food was good.

I don’t like giving bad reviews, but I did not enjoy the food here at all. Got idli/vada combo, chicken tikka masala, and pav bhaji.Everything was so sweet especially the chicken tikka masala (got med level spice). Vada was over cooked. Great service though and nice people. Also $22 is overpriced for chicken tikka, especially compared to Indian restaurant next door.

This is the BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT IN NYC!Update:I went in April 2022 for a live music event with Obasi as the performer. It was a great vibe. The chicken samosas and vegetable fritters were delicious. Perfectly flavorful, crispy and flaky. The Saag Paneer was absolutely amazing. The Spinach was not soggy. It was tasty and the cheese was not overwhelming in flavor or overall within the dish. The rice was fluffy and wonderful with the garlic naan.Go for live music Mondays - 6:30pm to 10pm. They feature different artists check out Eventbrite for details.Enjoy.Original review:I tried so many of their menu items. The chicken samosa was amazing! The batter was flaky and deliciously paired with the perfectly seasoned chicken inside. Every bite was amazing. The shammi kebab was intensely but wonderfully seasoned with mint and spices. The achari chicken tikka was delicious! The chicken was tender, juicy and once again, perfectly seasoned.I am not usually a fan of shrimp and rarely order it when eating out.The shrimp balchoa had such a great flavor profile! The shrimp was not chewy and covered in a tasty sauce. The garlic naan was soft with crispy edges. So delicious. The sharifa kheeDessert: Gulab Jamun Malai was a soft, warm, fluffy, delicious mouth feel. The shariga kheer was good. The almonds, rose essence and creamy rice was just sweet enough and served with a chocolate wafer stick that was a great contrast and added more texture. We sat outside, drank ate and laughed for hours. The restaurant staff was very welcoming and informative. If you are in the mood for delicious, authentic Indian food, I highly recommend Ashoka on 1718 2nd Avenue!

We were helped with wheelchair to and from and also guiding to bathroom. This was a great experience.Food was delicious, plus the cocktails menu is worth trying for fun. At 10pm the belly dancer came late night and that was really fun to see her perform.Wheelchair accessibility: Very accommodating.

The food is a little expensive but fair for NYC. The quality is great. Peshwari naan and spicy chicken makani was so great. We had two mains, two naans, dessert, and a couple sides and had plenty for leftovers. I hope next time to dine in versus takeout because the restaurant looked nice. Staff is really friendly.

Food is amazing and the staff are always sweet.Ambience looks good and elegant giving the restaurant a perfect vibe to the indianness.Food tastes similar to the real Indian food and can be customised according to our choice of spice level. Desserts are also tasty and can feel home here.Overall a must go restaurant in NYC if you are looking for a true Indian food restaurant with good ambience.

Definitely some of the best Indian food I have ever had - slow cooked to perfection! Everything was perfect from the rich gravy to the crisp naan. Had both the Vindalho and Makhani and both were amazing! Make it a point to hit this place up when your jonesing for some Indian cuisine! You will not be disappointed!!

Tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala dishes were the best tasting and most flavorful. The mixed tandoor grill is a great table trick, but wasn’t a fan of the non tandoori spiced chicken options- there was a green rubbed chicken which wasn’t my favorite. The salmon was fresh & flaky, but the shrimp were over cooked. Naan was light and airy - good quality naan. The aloo masala kati roll was incredible!Overall dining experience is solid, staff is nice and attentive. They also allow you to split bills with multiple credit cards. I’d eat here again.

I had a really bad experience with Ashoka the first time I went but this was about 2 years ago in January 2019.We recently went back as some friends wanted to go and I was really impressed with everything. The food tasted delicious. We had requested some modifications to spice levels and removal of one particular spice and they were happy to accommodate us. Every dish that came out we were very impressed with the seasoning and flavor. And the food came out fresh and hot which I always love. The portions were quite large so it made sense for the price. The wait staff was also very kind and attentive and the ambiance of the restaurant is really nice. Since the pandemic they definitely remodeled the place and made it look upscale. It's been awhile I've had Indian food that has reminded me of a home cooked meal so I was very happy to have found this gem in my neighborhood. If you're looking for authentic Indian food this is the place to go. Note: this is not a restaurant you go to for fusion or modern Indian cuisine.

The food and service are always incredible here. Highly recommend!!!! I wish my apartment was not so close to this restaurant because I have to convince myself that I don't need it every single day.

One of my favorite spots in the UES, my favorite dish is paneer Makhani. From all of the places I've tried, they do it the best! Ask for medium spice if you don't like your dish too spicy or make it more spicy for a nice kick!

Solid food with great service. The wine list was well rounded, so that added to the evening.

I've been having an Indian food craving since I have not had in a long time. Got chicken special and vegetarian special set meal -appetizing, main course, bread, rice and a small dessert. Everything was very well done a good value. Chicken meal was a somosa and chicken tikka masala. Vegetarian selected aloo tikka and aloo gobhi mutter. Everything was well done and a very nice sampling. Delivery was on time and food was warm. Will try again.
