Sat outside and had a lovely time, if only for the company I kept with me. The food was fresh and had good flavor but was expensive. New York prices. The service was passable. Not a smile, and they hovered too much.

Balthazar has everything you could ask for on a night out. The best French onion soup in NYC, dedicated people and classic decor. Dining at Balthazar is the complete experience, thank you to Keith McNally and his amazing team.

Love the goat cheese tart for a light lunch followed by the insanely delicious profiteroles. All these years later and the recipes haven't been tinkered with. Soooo good!

Another NYC institution Baothazar won't disappoint. Food is always made fresh and really tasty. There is a great selection of wine and cocktais too. Bonus points for the Parisian decor.

Service: always great, although attitude at the bar shouldn't really have to start with "I can't recommend anything because I don't drink" BAM! THat's shutting a door: start with "most guests say," or "let's get my colleague involved" etc.... why be nasty?Food: always consistently superbService: serious, deft, and rushed; lingering over wine after dessert isn't a thing anymore; unfortunately the pens STILL don't say BALTHAZAR but "Bic" which is ridiculous and the WATER comes from ITALY (Pellegrino) instead of somewhere from France; keep a theme. God is in the details and Balthazar should adorn its lovely post cards with proper pens instead of this plastic non-branded nonsense.

A must for all out of towners the place is happening again very interesting characters at the bar including myself be aggressive push yourself to a bar seat while waiting for a table don’t listen to the bartenders once you have eye contact order something interesting but smile and say something interesting. the steak is yummy and everything else never an issue and plentiful someone who finishes her plate always couldn’t finish the steak

Balthazar is definitely a Manhattan staple for the ambience and experience, but the food is not as good as it was a few years ago. We were able to make reservations for Sunday brunch on the phone on the day of, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the egg dishes were forgettable. The bread and pain de chocolate were cold and not toasted. We did enjoy the escargot. Overall, it’s worth a visit once or twice, but if you want a really great brunch, I would look elsewhere.

Great service, good is reliably good. Nicoise Salad is better than one would think.

We hadn't been here since Covid. The food quality deteriorated. Our French Onion soups were terribly oversalted to the point we couldn't eat them. Same held for my halibut. My husband's steak frites was not oversalted but it was a disappointing selection of steak. The seafood tower remained the hit and was of expected high quality. Overall for the crammed experience that is Balthazar, the food quality is overpriced for what you get now. Hopefully it was just a bad night in the kitchen. Go to Pastis instead.
