The experience feels as if you were swept out of NYC and landed in old school France. I understand why people love this place (oldest running French restaurant in NY) and I too enjoyed everything except I thought the food was just average (ordered the Steak Frites). The service, atmosphere and art work (look closely if you like puzzles) really add to the experience and be sure to check out the FAQ page on the back of the menu.

Loved the atmosphere, relaxed and music like you were in France in a bygone era. The duck l'orange was crispy and moist and my husband enjoyed the steak au poivre. The owner waited on us with such care and a smile.

The atmosphere can't be beat. Very Parisian. Service was great. The steak frites and chocolate mousse were delicious. Nice wine selection.

Great provincial French food. Every dish we had was very well prepared. We will be back.

We visited this establishment on our ultimate day in New York, which was truly befitting as it was a prime example of leaving the best till last.Reservations by telephone permit you a seat here, and a welcoming staff (this restaurant co-owned by mother and son) lead you to your table. Our waiter, however, stole the show and was a delight every time she came to check up on us.The atmosphere is immersive, the noise of NYC left behind as you enter patriotic France and its Parisian ambience - music and decor to match. You forget whereabouts in the world you really are.Our courses were exquisite, authentically French, and were worth every penny. The wide selection of extremely-reasonable wines complement the dishes beautifully.More restaurants in Manhattan should strive to be as unique as Chez Napoleon. Would not hesitate to return.

This place is utterly fantastic. Every dish is a 98mph fastball of truly old school French cuisine that I wish every French bistro in the city served (but yet always get too cute and screw up). Please for the love of god never change. This is perfect.

The soufflé that cost $34 and took 1 hour to make was perfect. Even in New York, there aren't too many that offer Soufflé, let alone one this great. The other dishes and homemade wine are very traditional and great.

Chez Napoleon is truly a NYC gem, the type of place that you would call a true Mom and Pop, but in this case, Mom and Son, since the place is family run and truly an intimate French experience.A reservation is a must as this place only has about 10-12 tables, very intimate and homey, with classic french charm and ambiance throughout.A coat rack right as you walk in to hang your coats, and friendly service when you want to order and get the food going. The place lost a star for the time it took to get the food out. It was about an hour from order to plate arrival, and it was about 45 min before the bread got to the table while we enjoyed drinks. They were aware we had a show to get to, so we were on the clock from the get.Besides the time, everything was delicious. I had the Sole Meuinere which was wonderful, my gf had the scallops with cream and mushroom sauce which was outrageous, her parents had the Moules which were good and the Shrimp with rice were good, but too much taragon I'm told.Overall 4 stars, a true neighborhood gem, bravo!

Where do I begin? I picked this restaurant for it's proximity to parking and theater. I had high expectations that were exceeded. My wife and I are indeed "foodies" and have cooked many recipes from Julia Child's books. We had chicken Cordon Bleu , chicken couque vin and crepes Suzette. The angels wept it was so good. Our server/owner/skiing trophy winner was amazing. Also a terrific dry martini. Run, don't walk to go here.
